Please tell me I am not mad...

...and homemade is definitely better?

I love cooking and make most meals from scratch. As I am on mat. leave and therefore off for xmas for the first time in about 10 years I have decided to go to town and cook absolutely everything from scratch that will be consumed over the extended break (including bread, biscuits, truffles, etc). I have already made and frozen quite a few things so it is not like it is going to be a massive undertaking on the day.

Yet most people I have spoken to seem to think that I am completely bonkers and ask things like "why don't you just buy it?". My answer is that homemade is, in my opinion, tastier, healthier and cheaper, and that it is fun to do, but I am just getting strange looks like I have just confessed to being slightly deranged.

Am I? (deranged I mean). Or do I need new friends? Be as brutal as you like in your answers :o

Not mad. If you have the time and enjoy doing it then go for it.
It is almost certainly cheaper and if you're good at cooking, it will be much tastier!

It's a hobby, for fun - you are not mad. You are doing it because you enjoy it. Maybe they don't understand that.

Hmmm, if you have time to spare then why not? I mean, this does sound like extreme nesting syndrome (have you had your baby yet?) possibly?

I think your mates should be more supportive, I would love to come round and partake in some homemade bread/biscuits--something which I would never make at home. Grin

If you enjoy cooking then go for it. Some people love cooking and it's not a chore to them, others dislike it and prefer to buy what they can, ready made. Each to his own.

oreocrumbs · 12/12/2011 21:53

I would love to be able to do this but sadly lack mainly the time but also some skill Xmas Blush.

Not mad in the slightest and if you have any leftovers chuck 'em my way Xmas Grin

Not mad! Some people make all their own bread well in a breadmaker anyway and biscuits and cakes routinely Smile.

Can I come round and eat the stuff which your friends (who think you are mad) obviously won't be eating? Xmas Grin

I love cooking, esp if there's no time pressure ie when you're cooking in advance for freezing. I've made and frozen a load of chocolate truffles for Christmas day too. There's nothing like the feeling of pride when you sit back and admire your handiwork. The bonus is that it definitely tastes better too!

NorkyPiesWithJingleBellsOn · 12/12/2011 21:56

Perhaps they wonder if you'll really have the time.

Thankgodforcaffeine · 12/12/2011 21:58

Thanks guys, feeling a tad less deranged already :)

Oh, and I have had my baby, DD is 7mo so I can't pass this off as nesting I'm afraid
