What size beef joint?

I usually go into the butchers and say 'Can I have a joint to feed X amount of people'

However, the butcher has recently joined a website of local produce so I can order stuff and have it delivered. The only problem is I don't know what size I need.

I want to feed 5 adults - I don't mind if there are leftovers.

Do I need a 2kg or 3kg piece of topside roast?

We are feeding 5 adults and have a 5kg of pork AND are having 5kg of beef Xmas Blush. That we expect to feed us all for two meals and have plenty for sandwiches! So, 3kg at least but if you want leftovers I'd go for 4 or 5! Greedy us lot!!

Oooh, perhaps I should go for 5kg.

I went to place the order and realsied that I have no idea Xmas Blush

I'm only equiped with the knowledge as I was at my mams at the weekend when the farmer brought the pork Xmas Blush would also have no idea otherwise! I have to say 5kg is a hefty joint of meat, we have a rolled shoulder of pork and length wise it is from my elbow to palm!

Allow about half a lb per person & an extra half for shrinkage which I think is around 2kg. If you have the 3kg piece it allows for second helpings & cold cuts.

Thank you.

I sent DH to ask the butcher and he said exactly the same as you - 2kg would probably be OK but to be on the safe side I should order the 3kg
