hello

i have just got my yummy walnut bread on in the breadmaker, set on timer to be ready for the morning, and as i was putting the ingredients away i realised a really really really silly mistake i made- i used self raising flour instead of bread flour Blush

what will happen? will it work? i have the panasonic breadmaker which says strictly to only use bread flour...do i have to chuck everything away and start again Sad i think i need a Brew...

I don't think that it will work, I would start again and not risk it.

What I suggest is you get it all out of the breadmaker now and pour it into a bowl and mix by hand and leave it to rise in the kitchen overnight and knead and cook in the ordinary oven when you get up if it has risen OK.

Put another mix in the breadmaker now if you have the ingredients. I have a vague recollection that SR flour supressed the yeast when I accidentally did this in my Panasonic.

thank you. i kind of knew that would be the answer but i was desperately hoping for someone to say 'hey ive done that, and it was fine, in fact even better' Grin i just wasn't in the mood to redo it....but anyway i had to. i'm only 12 weeks pregnant and ive already started doing silly things Confused

" i'm only 12 weeks pregnant and ive already started doing silly things"

I haven't even got that excuse. I just randomly do silly things. Putting too much mix in the breadmaker so it rises up, flops over the side of the bowl and then burns on the heating elements is a particular favourite. Grin

Did you try and put the old mix in a bowl to see if it would rise?

hi notjustforclassic i got the replies above last night and so i took it out and put some new ingredients in. it was a shame as i didn't have any buckwheat flour left for the new mix nor did i have enough walnut oil. but it still turned out ok this morning. and i still have a working breadmaker Grin

I very rarely use proper bread flour (tight) in my breadmaker, and it's fine, sometimes a bit tricky to get out of pan, but the breadmaker is ancient.
