Porridge in the slow cooker

Arghh! I followed these instructions for making porridge in the slow cooker & when I looked this morning it had all gone lumpy & had welded itself to the pot!

What went wrong? Do I need to add more liquid? Oil the pot first? Not cook it for so long??

How do you do it?

sorry but tbh I would have thought washing up a slow cooker would take longer than washing up one lone small saucepan and would rather save the time and effort and wait 4 minutes for cooked porridge in a saucepan.

I put in one ramakin of porridge to two ramikins of milk and set on a medium heat and leave for two minutes then turn up the heat and stir for a minute - pour in cereal bowl and then wash up lone saucepan - as dd eats cooked porridge.

I eat raw soaked porridge with sultanas, as I am not so struck on cooked porridge Smile

You can soak the porridge overnight and then cook in microwave for two minutes, then serve.

I love my slow cooker but I have a stew going for three or four days and it is great as no washing up for three to four days - only a few bowls which have had stew in.

ivy I usually make it in the microwave, so even easier & quicker than on the hob.

I remembered I made this spiced porridge successfully in the slow cooker last winter, so it can work, I just wondered why it didn't work last night!

I'm having problems too so marking my place.

I usually use the microwave - but I cook it the night before then reheat in the morning. Maybe I'll have a go at soaking it then cooking the next day. We have ours very thick though so it'll stay on my toddler's spoon.

when I make mine in the microwave I follow the instructions on the pack & make it up with water the night before, then nuke it in the morning & stir a bit of cold milk into it in the morning.

I've done porridge in the slow cooker, but mine's got no temperature settings, only time, and if I left it overnight it would be solid. So it's 1 part porridge to 2 parts milk, and then sling in some sugar or sultanas or whatever, and it gets left for six minutes while I run about locating shoes and keys, drying my hair etc. Lovely, and I know it won't burn the place down if I forget about it (happens quite a lot Blush)
