Pre-soaking green lentils?

Is it necessary?

I usually use supermarket bought lentils that say "no soaking needed", but I have bought green lentils from an Asian Food supermarket and the back of the packet carries a generic "all pulses need soaking, consult your recipe". I am making a lentil chilli to cook all day tomorrow in the slow cooker, so can easily soak them overnight if required, but would rather save the washing up if not!

There is really no need with lentils. I certainly never have - vegetarian for nearly 30 years, haven't poisoned myself yet.

Smile Thank you!

Am a bit embarrassed that I have got to this age without gaining confidence with pulses!! But I aim to learn - there was so much interesting stuff in this shop, I am really keen to get more adventurous - and it starts with grenn lentils Grin

Ah, lentils hold no fear for me now - but I have a packet of gram flour in the cupboard that I haven't quite done anything with yet, despite picking it up with absolute nonchalance in the shop... Hugh F-W did some cauliflower and sweetcorn bhajis/fritters on C4 the other night which used gram flour, so I really should give it a go.

Hope the chilli's good Grin
