run out of curry powder

I am making a curry for dinner. The recipe says 1-2tbsp of curry powder. There was only just 1tbsp left in the pot. My plan was to put 1tbsp in, reheat a little bit later for DD (age 7months), then put the other tbsp in when I reheat the rest for DH and I. I just tried it and it is quite bland, which is good for DD but DH and I would appreciate more spice. The curry powder container lists ingredients, including coriander seeds, tumeric, ginger and cumin, which I have, but have no idea how much I would need of them. I have a reasonable selection of spices in jars if anyone can recommend what to add as an equivalent to 1 tbsp of curry powder. Thanks.

try this

I would do a mix of cumin, coriander, ginger, paprika and chilli powder if you have them. If you like it hot I'd do a teaspoon of each, then taste and see if it needs any more. A tablespoon is equivalent to 3 teaspoons though, so you may want to do just over half a teaspoon of each instead.

Hope that helps!

I'd stick in a teaspoon of each and taste it - doesn't matter if that adds up to more than a tablespoon because (a) if they're ground spices in jars they've lost some intensity already, and (b) none of those spices are chili powder/flakes or cayenne.

I'd add chili powder too but I like some heat!
