Heston's 'pine-infused' mince pies

Has anyone here actually stumped up for them in Waitrose? They come with 'pine-scented' sugar and you are meant to warm them up first and then sprinkle with smelly sugar. Hmm I'm torn between thinking 'ooh, mince pies that smell like lav disinfectant christmas trees! Must try!' and 'bloody hell, he's seen us coming again. Hmm'

He's a sneaky one. The key ingredient is clearly the piney sugar, and it's not something you can buy or even manufacture (without running the risk of poisoning yourself).

Be interested to read taste-reviews!

Bought them a few times. Dh is crazy about them I know they are expensive but they are completly amazing well worth the money!

belledechocchipcookie · 23/11/2011 18:56

I'm on the fence. I'd like to try one, I'm reluctant to pay the extra for them though. Blush

usualsuspect · 23/11/2011 18:58

They are for Poncey people who shop in Waitrose

usualsuspect · 23/11/2011 18:59

usualsuspect · 23/11/2011 18:59

warthog · 23/11/2011 19:01

why?

warthog · 23/11/2011 19:02

you sound like in inverse-snob.

HalfSpamHalfBrisket · 23/11/2011 19:03

We have had these. DP cunningly waited til they were reduced to £1.29 for a pack of six. They were lovely, not sure if I'd buy them full priced though.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 23/11/2011 19:07

I hovered over them today but all I could hear was you lot laughing at lav scented pies and it put me off.

usualsuspect · 23/11/2011 19:07

Really ,not allowed to say bad things about Waitrose on MN?

Ah, I get it only Asda shoppers get slagged off

warthog · 23/11/2011 19:13

i haven't bought them. prolly won't.

but at least he's doing something different. at least it's interesting. instead of the boring old shit we eat every day.

he's an easy target so let's bash away then.

pointydog · 23/11/2011 19:13

Wot nobbery.

Queenkong · 23/11/2011 19:16

My mum bought some when I was staying with her last week. Dad made us a cup of tea and brought them in. We were all munching happily away but couldn't taste the Xmas tree sugar at all. Turns out dad hadn't realised the sugar was in a separate packet. What a waste of a fiver.

unreasonableismyname · 23/11/2011 19:19

I liked the mince pies but the pine sugar reminded me of pissy public loos.

SeeLyon · 23/11/2011 19:28

THEY ARE GOPPING
the pastry is claggy and vile and the sugar is unnoticable.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 23/11/2011 20:15

Grin at forgetting to put the poncy sugar on!

Gopping pastry, really? Ooh, that's a bit crap. Perhaps I'll wait until everything's reduced after christmas and give them a go when they're 25p a pack! Presumably Waitrose is hoping that they'll go the same way as his puddings last year and clear off the shelves. (Not sure you could put a pack of mince pies on ebay like the puddings were, though.)

I love and do shop a lot in Waitrose but it's going down market and getting up it's backside at the same time IMO. DH also loves Heston B But it's only the publicity he gets that Waitose is cynically interested in IMO. His weird, highly scientific and denatured food you can take and shove IMO.!! I think it's boy's toys.

I do know he can cook well 'normally' !!
