Kenwood or KitchenAid mixer?

wangle99 · 20/11/2011 14:31

My trust Kenwood mixer decided to catch fire this morning and I doubt is repairable. It is a very old one (I had it second hand 19 years ago!). Am thinking those Kitchenaid mixers look wonderful but are they any good?? Or should I stick with Kenwood?

Advice please :)

Thank you!

omerta · 20/11/2011 14:44

Love my kitchen aid.

No idea if it's any better than a Kenwood but looks beautiful Wink

FFSEnid · 20/11/2011 16:55

I would get a kenwood because they have more powerful motors generally.

If you are interested in repairing your burnt one these people are very good

I like the new kenwood kmix

I have a chef major which has a huge bowl. Its vair nice.

My lovely new Kenwood came yesterday. It is fab. It is a premierGrin

I have a kitchenaid and use a kenwood at work, the KA is really much better and looks better too.

ShirleyKnot · 20/11/2011 20:30

I went and had a look at the mixers again yesterday in John Lewis, as Ken's button has got stuck and I think he's on his way out...

ANYWAY, I was really shocked at how "plastic-y" the new Kenwoods are, they felt really unsubstantial and I really think that bits would snap off. Shock

The kitchen aids on the other hand...

god, I want one so much.

I've had my kenwood chef model km010 for a year and can't imagine life without it! I use it at least 3 times a week. It's a mixer, blender and food processor all together and I have the pasta machine too. Never used a kitchenaid so don't know how it compares but I am very happy with my kenwood.

babyledweaner · 20/11/2011 21:00

The kitchenaid is just gorgeous. Beautiful as well as practical. There were big Which approval signs on the Kenwoods I saw in John Lewis the other day though (but they are much less aesthetically pleasing to my mind)

wangle99 · 20/11/2011 21:44

It's a really difficult decision - reading the reviews on Amazon people are very pro-Kenwood and they say they aren't made in the UK anymore so you aren't 'buying British'. Kitchenaid does look beautiful and it will live on the worktop.

Such a difficult choice! Isn't anywhere local I can go and have a look in real life either!

i had a beautiful blue Kitchenaid for ages, until i broke it it broke. I replaced it with a cream K-Mix which has a more powerful motor, and, I think, looks just as good, but in a 30s Deco style rather than a 50s diner style. Lovely and chunky and heavy.

It was also £220, instead of £399.

SexyDomesticatedDab · 21/11/2011 15:30

Our kenwood is over 20 years old and still going strong but some cosmetic stuff and time for some updating just replaced it with a cream kmix. Bough the kmix hand mixer a while ago and very impressed as its the only metal body / good gear one we found - went through a few of those. I like the look of KA but not that much and based on fact the kenwood has done a good job and wanting to match in the new mixer went for the KMIx. On offer too at Amazon currently - so is the liquidizer (coming soon!).

Well, my MIL has lent me her Kenwood Chef KM series, she bought it when her 1960s one couldn't be repaired, didn't like it and shoved it in her shed! Her words 'oh well you might as well borrow it you'll get it when i'm 6ft under' lol. It doesn't look quite as nice on my work as a kitchenaid AND it has a sharp bit on the front that sliced my hand but it does mix icing very well.

Still want a kitchenaid though lol

I love my Kenwood, and wouldn't be without it, but I do think the kitchen aids look prettier!

HeeHeeHeeBum · 22/11/2011 21:25

I really want a kitchenaid for xmas but I have read such good reviews of the kenwoods so I'm hesitating a bit. The kitchenaid is so beautiful though and I really love the green.

Anyone know how good they hold up with kneading bread dough?

redglow · 22/11/2011 22:18

brilliant heehee The green one is lush.

wangle99 · 26/11/2011 22:06

Well, I have to admit I've succumbed and just ordered a kitchenaid. Having been using MIL's kenwood I'm not happy with the flimsy feel of the dial, my last kenwood (before it caught fire lol) was very very sturdy but this new one just doesn't feel like that. I struggle to live it up to get the bowl off as well. Found a local shop with kitchenaid on display so had a good fiddle. Went for the almond colour as think eventually I'll get fed up with a bright one. Here's hoping it is as good as I hope it will be!

sorry not much help Confused

Thehusbandsatcricketagain · 27/11/2011 21:29

HeeHee the kitchenaid is brill at bread dough :o

stclair · 02/12/2011 14:15

HeeHee - the Kenwood kmix is fabulous at bread dough! :o
I agree the Kenwood Chef does seem quite plasticy and put me off buying one but the kmix which I went for after much deliberation is as heavy duty as anything.

Sixyearoldwoes · 02/12/2011 23:21

Love my kitchen aid. Don't use it all the time but it looks gorgeous!
