If so, let's compare menus. (Should note caveat that I didn't cook any of it, DH is chef in this house) It was amazing food.

Starter - Boursin cheese tarlets on red onion jam with basil on the top

Main - Scallops and monkfish, green beans parcels wrapped in prosciutto ham, butternut squash fondant

Pudding - vanilla panna cotta with blackcurrant and raspberry coulis with cassis.

Divine.

Wow, your food sounds lovely.
Thankfully I have never had or even been too a dinner party. .

FunnysInTheGarden · 20/11/2011 20:26

well what more can I say but yum again? Never been to a DP thegirl? You don't know what you are missing. Really must invite friends over for dinner soon. Always make grappa panna cotta with raspberries and have some french goats cheese for afters, banon if poss. Roast chicken with new potatoes or risotto with choritzo, squid and chicken for main. Starter usually olives etc. And some good wine. Yum yum, must arrange soon

FunnysInTheGarden · 20/11/2011 20:28

oh and usually loads of DC running about and good chat with good friends. Only ever do daytime 'dinner parties' and flake out at about 7pm!

FunnysInTheGarden · 20/11/2011 20:32

another post. Have resolved to invite 2 sets of friends over before christmas complete with 2 DC each. So thats 6 adults and 6 DC aged from 2 - 16. Should be good fun!

We had the dd's godparents over last night (first proper dinner do since dd2 was born and is now 10mo Blush). Menu:
Duck confit, duck fat roasties, green beans
Cheese (picos de europa, vintage red leicester, crottin, a soft one that looked a bit like a brain Grin) with apples from our garden
Petit mont blanc (meringue with chestnut puree and cream)
All washed down with some of the 2006 Cos d'Estournel my dad gave us as a wedding present.
Feeling a little wan, shall we say, this morning, after dd2 was up twice then dd1 woke her at 5.30 for the day. Yawn!

We went to a dinner 'party' last night, we had a huge array of chinese type dishes, most of which had started life in a jar, lots of fluffy rice, noodles and dips. It was absolutely delicious, kids loved it and there was no funny cheese/seafood/fondant in sight. My host had basically put everything she had in the cupboard and served it up on the table. It fed 9 hungry people well. We drank wine, cider AND beer.

Dinners such as OPs scare the pants off me in case I ever have to reciprocate.

mumdad2kidsandadog · 20/11/2011 21:03

Realhousewife, were you at my house? There were only 8 of us though, unless you count the dog, who did enjoy the chinese feast.
:)

realhousewife · 20/11/2011 21:14

If your name describes the members of your family it was not your house.

Come to think of it this whole dinner party thing is a good credit crunch basher - bulk cooking is always cheaper, and nothing gets wasted (even without a dog). For that reason I shall be doing more of it.

mumdad2kidsandadog · 20/11/2011 21:57

I didn't think she was a mumsnetter, although she should be. :)

Staying in is the new going out and it doesn't have to cost a lot. I had been stockpiling my freezer from the reduced section for a while to make the feast.

QuintesentialShadows · 20/11/2011 22:03

Yes.

But mine was rather unplanned.

I had roast chicken marinated in herbs and garlic. Roast Veg and potatoes, in herbs and with fresh basil.

Pudding of blueberries and rasberries, creme fraiche with cinnamon on the side, and homebaked cookies.

It was very nice, but rather unplanned. More of a "sorry we are running late for our coffee date" and me going "ok, come for dinner instead".

We dont usually have starter and dessert!

Yours sounds divine, op!

Today with had panfried Duck a l'orange, rice, steamed veg, sauted mushrooms and a salad on the side. No guests, though.
