its that time of year again when we are required to be 'creative' and make goodies for the nursery christmas fair.

i have seen these in the shops, and just wondered how difficult they are to make yourself and how exactly do you make them? or is there something far easier that i could make that would sell well? i usually make nigellas rocky roads and tiffin type things and would like to try something a bit different this year.

all suggestions welcome.

ps fair is midweek and so it will need to be something quick ish that i could do in an evening after work, dinner, bedtime etc!

They are easy but fiddly here

If you go onto YouTube and type in cake pops, there's a really good tutorial on there that I would strongly advise you to watch before making! There's a bit of a knack to it, but they're quite easy to make.
Couple of tips:
You'll need something like polystyrene to stick them in to dry, so get that ready before you start.
Dip the lolly stick in icing before inserting into the cake ball so it stays on.
Being gentle is key.

Give me a shout if you need any help! I had a lovely time making these !

I made some last year, Christmas trees and puddings. Will try put pics on. Fairly easy to make, I followed the bakerella tutorials and used the Candy Melts - bought in Hobby Craft. I just used chocolate cake mix (you can even buy ready to eat) blitzed it up and mixed with Betty Crocker fudge frosting until I got the right consistency. Made into the shapes and put in fridge, then put on sticks and coated in melted candy melts. I stuck them in polystyrene and decorated. When dry I put them in these little cellophane bags and tied with ribbon. They looked really cute.

Oh i love the idea of these, tho they sound tricky!!! :( I shall check out the youtube link too.!!

Hopefully should be able to click my name and see pics now...none of the pudding pops though. I did round balls (chocolate cake) dipped in dark chocolate with white rolled icing on top and little holly berries and leaves painstakingly cut out.

I enjoyed doing it though Grin

www.mumsnet.com/member/MemberPage?call=com.mumsnet.member.PublicPage&nick=ednurse if it didn't work!!!

Trees quite easy...just cone shaped cake pops. Dipped in green candy melts and used a toothpick to make the texture. Would have used smaller 'decorations' though. Cut little stars out with a star cutter from Hobbycraft, just a yellow rolled icing, I also whacked some yellow edible glitter on them Grin

Look at the Bakerella site -- she knows Everything There Is To Know about cake pops. On the Christmas front she has snowmen (two different sorts, if you scroll down) and reindeer, Santa hats and Christmas trees

ednurse they are beautiful. i cant aspire to that i am afraid. and as for the pops on bakerella - wow! have had to hide the website from view from DS so he cant see the toy story one.
i think i may try some basic xmas pud type ones with dark choc cake and holly sprinkles and possibly some snowball ones too. no doubt there will be another mummy at the fair who produces bakerella standard cakes but at least i would have tried Smile
