How to you get glossy white lemon icing for a cake?

I'm trying to make a yummy lemon cake. The cake recipe I have is lovely.

But I can't seem to get the icing right. Any recipe I've seen calls for an equal amount of lemon juice and icing sugar. But it just seems to come out runny and see-through, not bright white and glossy on the outside, and slightly sticky.

Help!

You can buy lemon flavour icing sugar! Bit of a cheat, but...:o

If it's too runny just add more icing sugar til it's the right consistency. Making it with hot water should make it glossy.

You will only need a couple of tablespoons of lemon juice per 500g of icing sugar for a stiff icing that can be spread. Add the liquid very slowly as it gets runny quickly.

Lemon juice can slightly discolour the bright white icing, giving it a yellowish tinge, but I wouldn't worry. Far nicer than using artificial lemon flavourings.

Oh, thanks! I thought it was equal amounts of lemon juice and icing sugar. Never heard of making it with hot water! Thank you!
