my 2 ds's are mad on frozen stuff at the moment - particularly ice cubes and frozen bread...maybe its nice on the gums - but they were tucking into frozen peas the other day and i noticed while putting the pack back in the freezer it said in bold letters 'do not eat raw frozen peas'.
anyone know why??? do they upset the bowels or something??

I think it might be the choking hazard thing. Mine love frozen peas and sweetcorn and often have them as a snack.

mablemurple · 07/11/2011 22:55

I have absolutely no idea - my dd loves them and has never suffered from any side effects. They're not totally raw, anyway, they have been blanched.

trixymalixy · 07/11/2011 22:56

Watching with interest as I am quite partial to a frozen pea!

Moodykat · 07/11/2011 22:56

So glad I found this. My 2 year old has taken a liking to frozen peas recently. I just thought he was strange and tried to stop him. Blush

MrsMuddyPuddles · 08/11/2011 12:33

Does the packet not have contact information for the manufacturer? Call them and ask why that's there though it's probably CYA advice I'll also check my frozen peas (and sweetcorn) as my DD loves these, too! assuming I don't forget by the time I get home

notapizzaeater · 08/11/2011 14:24

Elf and safety gone mad. I also love frozen peas (and prawns - amazed to finds another lover of this). sweetcorn and carrots too ....

trixymalixy · 09/11/2011 18:04

I also love eating frozen raspberries, in fact I have had frozen raspberries with a White chocolate dip in two separate restaurants, so eating frozen stuff can't be that bad.

Conkertree · 09/11/2011 18:06

I love frozen prawns too.

babyocho · 09/11/2011 18:07

You cannot eat frozen peas?? My 3yo loves them, her fave snack!

Conkertree · 09/11/2011 18:07

Ds2 is partial to a frozen roast potato but I usually tempt him away with a frozen pea or two.

Haberdashery · 09/11/2011 18:15

I eat frozen peas, sweetcorn and prawns all the time. My five year old thinks a pot of frozen peas is a great treat!

Please don't say DS 16mo can't eat frozen peas! He hammers at the freezer door until he gets them!

I can't imagine why you shouldn't eat frozen peas.

DS is partial to frozen bread (we keep all our bread in the freezer).

Hi there I asked Birds Eye the question about Frozen peas. Here's their response.

Birds Eye
Hi again Jackie, we blanch our peas to guarantee colour and quality, however, it is not to produce a product that is ready to eat. For this reason, on all our Pea packs where we give recipe ideas, we include the statement “Simply stir in and continue to cook until tender and piping hot throughout.” This is not only to ensure that the peas are safe but also taste at their best! Whilst it is perfectly safe to eat the odd 1 or 2 peas frozen, eating too many like this may lead to a tummy ache, so we would not recommend it. We hope this helps.

When I was a child I ate a bowl a day for 12 years and never had any problems.

CatherineTheNotSoGreat · 06/10/2020 19:37

My youngest has lived frozen peas since she was tiny. She’s 12 now and still regularly wanders around with a bowl of frozen peas. Grin

Given that you can take a pea pod from your neighbour's garden, pop it open and safely eat the peas it should be fine.

Georgyporky · 07/10/2020 09:40

I do hope all the babies that were eating frozen peas 9 years ago have survived without any ill effects.
