Question for Blossomhill - went and bought slowcooker from Argos for £10 as you did - no instructions with it -- did you get a manual with it. Anyone else give any tips on best way to use - ie any "golden rules". thanks

Knat - Oh I had a manual with mine and a small recipie book.
Is yours the white one with blue writing on it?

knat · 31/12/2005 20:11

yes it is - i knew there should have been something in it. What are the basic rules?

Off the top of my head (as don't know where manual is, sorry )
Cook for about 8 hours
Put veggies at bottom and meat at the top

thanks blossom - sorry to be a pain - do you just then bung it in the ceramic pot with water/stock etc and then put that inside the outer casing and switch it on and bob's youruncle! I'm getting a recipe book for it so that should help - Must sound really thick but I've never used one before.

knat, often you can download instruction manuals for things fron the internet - check on the manufacturers website.

Goodl luck with your slow cooker - I lurve mine!

thanks puff - i've looked for the website but can't seem to find anything -it's a cookworks one. Never mind - might just give it a whirl and see what happens.

What a pain..i've got a slo cooker cookbook which has tips in it. Basically NEVER put it on without any liquid in, but around 2-3 tablespoons minimum is fine (obviously depends what you're cooking, most casseroles you would want to put loads more liquid in. Veggies funnily enough take longer to cook than meat (but its all cooked for ages anyway ... just don't think you can bung in extra veg at the end it won't necessarily be cooked). Try not to lift the lid too often, it takes a long time to get to heat so any heat escaping can apparently affect it (I always do tho ) If you have it on low but want to speed up cooking you can switch to high (takes approx 30 - 50% less time). Cook most casseroles on low for 8-10 hours or hi for 5-6 hours. HTH

knat - don't worry, I have only used my once
I think it generally is a case of bung it all in and cook it. I personally brown my meat first, although you don't have to.

Slow cooker for £10? I have been dying for one for a while!

Gillian76 · 31/12/2005 21:14

is this the one?

Definitely tempted

knat · 01/01/2006 11:41

yes gillian this is it. our Argos had plenty of stock as well. I don't think you can go wrong at that price.
