Sprouts. Inspire me please!

We are having sprouts for tea. The dses are suspicious of green veg especially stuff that looks like cabbage. So I need a creative way of cooking it so they are bowled over or an amusing name for them that I can call them instead so they sound appealing

Suggestions, pref before 5pm please!

(I am off out now so not ignoring any of your suggestions)

Fairy cabbages with pancetta and chestnuts, ummmm.

HermanMumster · 07/11/2011 14:15

No suggestions, but top thread title!

lostinwales · 07/11/2011 15:21

Hmm, as I suspected Yellow, very little to inspire about sprouts! Grin. I'm not sure I know anyone who would be devastated if they vanished all together.

Slubberdegullion · 07/11/2011 15:39

Oi! You know me, and I would be devastated [hyperbole].

I like sprouts.

KatyMac · 07/11/2011 15:41

cut into quarters & stirfried with cranberry sauce & bacon/ham

Yum

picnicbasketcase · 07/11/2011 15:48

Peel, cut into quarters, and stir fry with chopped smoked streaky bacon (or panacetta if you're dead posh) until bacon is cooked. Cover and leave to cook in steam. Or just boil them.

Yep, that exhausts my list of things you can do with sprouts.

YellowDinosaur · 07/11/2011 16:09

Not having any pancetta or chestnuts hampers the first suggestion somewhat... Smile at the fairy cabbages suggestion alhtough I suspect that will fall at the 'too girlish' hurdle for fairy and 'bleuugghh!' for cabbage.

Liking cut into quarters and stirfry with bacon (cranberry sauce won't get past dh's horror of fruit with savoury Grin) - I think I might even have some bacon in the freezer...

Dh and I will happily eat them steamed - I think they are fab! Not a chance with the boys though...

Chuck the fuckers. Seriously, they have no place in a civilised society, ruining your Christrmas dinner by sitting there glaring up at you and taking up valuable roastie space.

Liberate yourselves one and all!

mousyfledermaus · 07/11/2011 16:16

they are beautiful flowers inside.
let the dc disect them, leaf by leaf

YellowDinosaur · 07/11/2011 16:19

Liking the dissection idea however they have now been quartered and bacon defrosting in microwave.

Roasties are definately the king of veg on your Christmas plate Gwendoline but it wouldn't be Christmas without sprouts!!

Or even Gwendoline Blush

ArtyFartyPants · 07/11/2011 16:33

Ooooo I cooked sprouts the other day with squeezed out of the skin sausages! Served with pea mash and gravy

Delicious and my 8year old DS loved it and had seconds Grin

GwendolineMaryLacey · 07/11/2011 16:50

I bet he hid the sprouts under the sofa cushions though :o

ArtyFartyPants · 07/11/2011 17:10

Hahaha I'll have to check Wink

Xiaoxiong · 07/11/2011 17:36

Too late for you OP I know but I put them on a baking sheet, roll them in olive oil and roast them with garlic.

lostinwales · 07/11/2011 18:05

For Yellow

For Gwendoline

YellowDinosaur · 07/11/2011 20:01

So the cut into quarters and stir fry with bacon didn't cut the mustard with the boys. Dh and I liked them though (although I think I might prefer them steamed but nice to have something else to do with them!)

Roasting in olive oil and garlic sounds scrummy though!
