Hi there,
I am making many Crimble cakes for various relatives for Xmas presents..... Perhaps should have done them by now but not worrying about that., My question is: I always soak the fruit in alcohol partly for delicousness and partly as I love the ritual and smells of it all....

For the last few years I have just used other peoples and ours left overs,...but this year I get to choose.

So. My questions is what should I soak my raisons in?

Rum
Brandy
Sherry
Whisky?

I will be buying fairly cheap as i need lots....

OR.... could I get awy with soaking in orange juice and rum flavouring????

Last year I went for Rum and it was very good. Brandy always works well.

This year in a radical new departure I've gone for Amaretto and I'm fretting it was a hideous mistake - I think the cake might be the sweetest thing in the world. I'll feed it with brandy, I think.

brandy, has to be for christmas cake. Or Rum, have used rum before too.

not sherry and I find whiskey too strong.

mmmm Ameretto sounds nice, more almondy.

My recipe has a mixture of rum and cherry brandy. The results are always yum.
