I dont understand why a piece of thick white bread toast with loads of butter and jam is not as good as sweets. I'd rather have that than sweets or crisps.

mine all have a snack. Genrally speaking little ones cant eat enough at one meal to keep them going till the next. Obviously each are different. Keep it real and dont panic too much about'healthy' eating just keep everything in moderation as long as they dont over do thr rubish and eat a decent amount og 'good' food then thats ok.(imo) My youngest would eat all day long if I let him, I wonder if he would ever stop!!!

DD at 19mths is rubbish at meals to the extent that I now think more how to get her nutrients into snacks. So totally into the whole peanut butter in biscuits, nice bread for the ducks that she might chomp on too, satsuma crazed snackfest. Agree with poster who said her children 'meal between snacks' - this is us too, if meals are countable at all atm!

DS2 gets milk and fruit at breaktime at school. DS1 chooses not to. They both get a small snack when they get home from school.

In the holidays or at weekends they rarely have any snacks at all unless we've been swimming, or after Christmas when there are mountains of sweets/chocolates lying round the house that need eating up before the diets can start!

Crunchie - I thought most people on this thread DID say they give biscuits, cake etc!

Is there a differnce between snacks and treats?

I try to give healthy-ish snacks because I see them as part of DS's food/nutrition for the day.

In ADDITION to 'treats'. Choc, ice cream etc.

But personally, I do try to avoid things with lots of artificial additives / hydrogenated fat. But that's generally, not to do with snacks, specifically.

my DD 19 months is a cheese monster! she would munch it all day if she could. she doesnt eat much at meal times so i let her snack when she wants to. she has raisins, fruit, bread, and i do let her have biscuits and crisps sometimes too. oh, her biggest favourite is a kiwi. amazingly shes really not fussed with chocolate.
