any ideas? I made a job lot of the stuff over the weekend - it's meant to improve with age and get stickier but it's just blummin well dried out. I can't feed it with alcohol as it's being served to kids - but I'm wondering if there's something I could spoon over it to make it sticky? I don't mean something to serve it with - it's being served at an event, without bowls, iyswim. I mean something I can do to it now. like you feed brandy to a christmas cake. am really struggling to think of anything non-alcoholic. I've got treacle and golden syrup but I don;t think they' soak in...

Melt butter with golden syrup and pour that over. It should soak in, set up a little and give it a sticky effect.

thanks cog - I've just done an experiment on one bit - I dissolved some golden syrup and treacle in hot water and prodded the top like you do a lemon drizzle - the top looks lovely and dark and shiney - not sure if it's soaked in and moistened the cake though - will give it half an hour before trying it. if it hasn;t worked I'll try yours with a bit of butter

Or call it cake and ice it? Easier to eat with fingers?

Could you melt some marmelade and drizzle that over - may need to add some more liquid to it to make it soak in - or poke some holes in the top of the cake too.
