My cake tastes of soap - is it the silicone mould?

I've used a silicone mould for the first time for a cake. The whole kitchen reeked of soap while it was baking and it tastes of it too. The mould was new, and I rinsed it in hot water, but didn't wash it with soap. Has this happened to you? How should I wash it now?

I haven't used a silicone mould before but i'd wash it thoroughly in hot soapy water, use it again and if it still happens again wouldn't use it again , hope that helps.

Is it a blue one? I bought red ones from Asda that were fine, but also got some thinner blue ones from Aldi which made the cake and the oven smell of some sort of chemical.

It's not blue, it's gold. Noone else had this problem then?

I've got blue ones and never had this, but I did wash them first.

You didn't put too much baking powder in did you? I find that can cause a soapy taste if i'm a bit too generous with it.

I've had the baking powder soapiness before too but this wasn't it. Recipe doesn't have baking powder or bicarb. It tasted like dishwasher detergent but I've never put it i the dishwasher

Not had the exact same problem but I have found that when I make a cake with orange zest in the batter the silicone mould can take on the strong taste of the orange zest and I can taste it in subsequent cakes which is a bit annoying.. not sure what to suggest..maybe try washing with soapy water first and then rubbing the inside with bicarbonate of soda, leaving for a bit and then rinsing?
