Quick beef in slow cooker Q

I have got some casserole steak to go in slow cooker. Was intending to add carrots, parsnips, onion and potato to make a stew or casserole. I'll need stock with this, won't I? Would vegetable or chicken stock be better? (Don't have beef) Is there anything else which would be good to add?

vegetable stock would be better. Some worcester sauce or brown sauce would pick it up a bit (but only add a little!!)

Tsp of brown sugar and some tomato puree is also nice.

You'll only need a tiny amount of liquid. Slow cookers make heaps of juice.

I suppose it's whatever you like. If it's beef you're cooking, I'd moisten with beef stock. You could add a little Worcester Sauce too or maybe some tomato puree.

Seriously, don't over do the liquid. Our dog loves me using the slow cooker, no matter how hard I try there's always way more liquor than we need and she gets to finish it off.

Does the sugar make it sweet? I'm not too keen on sweet/savoury mixes.

So how do I know how much liquid to put in? Sorry, it's been ages since I've used the slow cooker and can't remember Blush

I've just found this which sounds great. Any thoughts?

(I don't have the minute tapioca or whatever it is but could just use cornflour)

Have put it in (divided all of those recipe quantities by 1/4 because I only had 1/4 the amount of beef) - it looks like very little liquid. Is this fine and it will just get more because of the veg/meat?

It's really dry!! :(

I put in twice the amount of liquid I thought, too. How are you supposed to know?
