Are rolled oats and oatmeal the same

am making Parkin for haloween party tomorrow. Recepie states oatmeal but I only have porrage oats. Are they the same

If you can't get oatmeal, I'd whizz the porridge oats in a food processor or blender as oatmeal is finer grain rather than flakes.

I use rolled oats in my parkin and it comes out lovely. If the oatmeal is too fine you might as well call it gingerbread. Just avoid using 'instant' oats

spooky - I've had exactly the same oatmeal/oats parkin problem this week. Nigella says you can blitz porridge oats in a food processor to get rough oatmeal, although it's apparently a different thing. In the end I made two versions to see if there was a difference, and actually the one with whole oats was nicer - although, even after leaving them to mature for five days, both were much drier and crumblier than the Parkin of My Youth. Suspect more treacle is needed (it was a Delia recipe and she's always a bit parsimonious with key ingredients like booze.)

Which recipe have you got?
