Cooking family meals day after day... ARGHHHHHHHHHH!

valiumredhead · 21/10/2011 16:21

I am about to throw the oven out of the window, I am SO fed up with churning out meals that everyone will eat ever day. I AM SO BORED!!!

Soooooooooooooooo, can you tell me what you eat please? - I need inspiration before I explode with boredom! Doesn't have to be fancy, I just need ideas.

I cook -

Lasagne
Stew
Butterbean casserole in the SC
Pork and cider and apple in the SC
Gammon in the SC
Sausage and mash and onion gravy
Baked potatoes with cheese or tuna and salad
Spanish chicken
Morrocan chicken with cous cous
Salmon and noodles
Cod
Spag bol
Cottage pie
Roast dinner
Pasta with tomato based sauce
Beef and shallot stifado
Curry
Egg and chips! Grin

SURELY I can cook more than 18 meals but I am in such a rut I can't think of anymore

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

That's about tweleve more than I do!!1

fivegomadindorset · 21/10/2011 16:24

WE have risotto alot, pea and chicken or tonight is pea and pancetta, pasta with bacon and peas or pancetta and runner beans.

Lucycat · 21/10/2011 16:25

Nope that looks about all the meals a human being can create Grin
I wish I had 18 meals in my repertoire - I'm afraid it's scrambled egg & beans for us tonight - maybe with toast if we have any bread.

Will also be looking for new ideas Grin

Lucycat · 21/10/2011 16:25

oh yes my savoury rice - like risotto but chuck all the stock in at once - possibly with a sausage on the top

Mrsrobertduvall · 21/10/2011 16:27

I am sick of it too.
I have pledged to find some more creative meals next week.....your list is about twice the size of mine.

valiumredhead · 21/10/2011 16:33

Risotto! Great thanks, I had forgotten about that!

It's actually easier for me to cook something that can be re heated as dh works shifts and gets in at odd times - if I could cook scrambled eggs I would believe me! Grin

Pasta bake(with tuna, creme fraiche, leek and cheese)? Sausage stew/tray bake? Gnocchi with pesto, broccoli and cooked chicken? I use Fay Ripley's family cook book a lot - kids will eat most of her recipes.

I'm impressed with your list though - cheese toasties feature highly on our menu and tonight it's take away!

Snackbagoskulls · 21/10/2011 16:36

Oh and my DH eats later like yours - much easier to cook once! Fay R has a nice chicken and rice thing which is good too

valiumredhead · 21/10/2011 16:37

Pasta bake - good one, thanks and we love leeks! No pesto as have allergies sadly, that would be very useful otherwise!

Fay's book is great (the brownies with galaxy chunks.....)

Also - Macaroni and cheese? Cauliflower cheese? (with chips and corned beef in our house!) gnocchi and tomato sauce? Chilli? There's another family cook book I use - no pictures, but lots of good staple dishes and she even does meal plans for you www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/1905862156/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1319211949&sr=8-1 it has got a ridiculous name though

Coddle recipe = homecooking.about.com/od/porkrecipes/r/blpork20.htm

It doesn't sound very tasty but it actually is quite nice Smile

BoffinMum · 21/10/2011 16:52

Two months' worth of menu plans with linked shopping lists on my blogs, and many of the recipes if the meals are a bit unorthodox. Also several batch cookfests to be done at the weekend to reduce cooking boredom on Mondays and Tuesdays. Enjoy.

Tacos? They're delish and you can set out bowls of salsa, olives, lettuce, cheese, avocado, etc, and everyone can put on what they want.

gomummygo · 21/10/2011 17:49

Haven't read it all Valium, but here are a few of the hits in our house in addition to your list (which has a lot of our favourites, btw!):

Homemade pizzas
Pasta bakes
Steak w/ garlic mash or roasted potatoes
Pork chops with goat cheese and risotto
Pork tenderloin with peppercorn sauce and silky mash
Chicken pot pie
Quiches/western sandwiches with homemade chips or homemade soup
Fajhitas/quesadillas
Tacos
Ham and scallopped potatoes
Butter chicken over rice
Salmon in a dill cream sauce with soup and salads
Roast beef dinner
Schnitzel salad or on a bun
Anything in a mushroom sauce over rice
Stir fry of any kind (whatever's in the fridge, lol!)
Swedish meatballs with rice
Stromboli
Sweet & sour chicken over chow mein noodles or rice
Ribs with potato salad

I shall stop now as I am hungry now! Grin
