I want to make some, but with just full fat milk, not condensed milk or double cream etc, and I can only find recipes using those.

Do you have a recipe you could share please?

Thanks very much! :)

I do, I would just use milk for the whole liquid ingredients.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/10/2011 17:33

I do. I'd probably use about 2 pints of milk to about 5 ounces of rice and about 5 spoons of sugar plus lots of nutmeg and a few dots of butter. Could eat a bowlful right now!

I do and it's lovely, but I do think the quantities are specific to your slow cooker, have you still got the book that came withit? It should be in there...

you wouldn't get the nice skin in a slow cooker, would you?

hellhasnofury · 15/10/2011 17:51

I just use the recipe on the back of the packet, it's always come out fine.

ImpYCelyn · 15/10/2011 18:50

Thanks very much everyone! I'll have to experiment with quantities, I don't remember my booklet having a recipe for it, but I'll see if I can dig it out and check.

I'm so looking forward to it!

Yes, you do get a skin on top in a slow cooker.

hellhasnofury - I make the packet recipe too. Tastes lovely, my ds loves rice pud, yum!

quick hijack if I may Imp... question for those who have made it in the slow cooker.... do you find the rice pudding comes out slightly brown, rather than creamy white? I've tried it a couple of times following recipe in my slow cooker book, and although it tastes ok, doesn't look very appetising

ImpYCelyn · 17/10/2011 13:27

I made some yesterday and I didn't notice it being browner than normal. But it was more liquid than I was expecting (I used the recipe that came with it) so I need to change it. Maybe that would change the colour.

I made a chocolate rice pudding today, by way of an experiment, and it turned out delicious Grin. Probably not particularly healthy, but lovely.
I made a huge one because we're a big family, so the quantities of stuff are big - I used a kilo bag of rice, with about 4oz of brown sugar. I buttered the dish fairly lavishly (used olive oil spread stuff rather than actual butter, probably about 2oz), and used a litre of chocolate milk and a litre of chocolate brownie milk from Tescos. I just spotted the brownie milk when we were in there and thought it would be nice, it's one of the limited time things.
Dumped it all in and left it on high for 5 hours, giving it a good stir every hour or so. Oh and I dumped a tin of Carnation milk in there too. The leftovers will reheat tomorrow, probably with a bit more milk to "unclag" it a bit.

I'm fairly sure I found this online described as a slow cooker recipe - anyway, I've made it and it's great.

1.5 litres of whole milk
150g sugar
150 pudding rice
40g butter
Pinch of nutmeg

I greased the inside of the slow cooker with butter then bunged everything in, stirred it and left it on medium for about 3 hours. At one point it seemed a bit lumpy, so I whizzed it with the electric whisk and left it on low for an additional half hour.
