We adored the kale and mushroom lasagne and he north African squash stew was divine.

Other recommendations from the book anyone?

Thanks!

I haven't got the book sorry but bumping for you. Dp made the root vege boulange-something which was nice but had far too much stock and the celeriac rather overpowered the other veg. I think with some tweaking it could be v good. And I don't know if it's in the book or not but he does a celeriac and chilli gratin which is gorgeous.

Oh I love the sound of kale and mushroom lasagne. Is it possible to post it here?
Which Hugh is it you are talking about?

The swede & potato pasties were very tasty, even with shop-bought pastry. Much nicer than beef pasties I made at the same time.

We had the courgette and bean salad with tahini dressing last night and it was scrummy. You need a bit of time to do the oven dried tomatoes, but apart from that it was all v quick to prepare.
We did the aubergine and potato thing the night before - also good as a side dish (we had it with sausages, not quite in the spirit of the series, but hey Grin), but not as good as the salad.

Is the book good then? Do I need to put it on my xmas list? I asked DH to record the show & he forgot so haven't seen it yet

I liked it - lots of slightly different veggie type food. But I'd not read any River Cottage books before, and I've not read many vegetarian recipe books etiehr.

I borrowed mine from the library! Had to pay 60p to reserve it as it was rather in demand though. :)

I made the porotos granados that he gave the recipe for in his web chat and it was gorgeous. I assume that is in the book?

I made the pearl barley broth yesterday. I was a bit sceptical - I like vegetable soup but it's all a bit same-ish, but it was really tasty. Even DH said how nice it was, and usually he prefers Sainsbury's Basics tinned soup to my homemade sort. Hmm

Took longer to cook than he said, but my pearl barley was 2 years out of date. Blush

I've not tried Hugh's, but I have had beetroot ice-cream before & it was yummy!

sharond101 · 05/11/2011 13:19

I thought the beetroot tart tatin looked good on the programme.

I am in love with this book. Made the cheese and leek toastie today for lunch (divine... dribbles at memory) and we've also had the mushroom stoup, and the spinach spouffle. I love the book so much that I can even overlook the silly names he gives things. All lovely, even though I was one egg white down for the spouffle, and it didn't rise.
