i do most of my shopping online, so was bit of a shock today in iceland. loads and loads of people queing up with trolleys full of 'party food' literally boxes and boxes of the stuff.

isnt part of the fun of christmas and general fun occasions the consumption of good food? i dont see how prawn toast for a pound plus all the packaging can be classed as good food.

in fact even aside form the party stuff, hardly anyone had any ingredients in their shopping. just boxes of ready made stuff. im all for convenience foods, but interspersed with proper food as well.
any thoughts?

Each to their own!!!!!!!!

But Iceland isn't really an "ingredient" sort of shop is it? So it's probably not representative!

well, yes obviously, but it just shocked me. maybe i lead too much of a sheltered life. or maybe have just been too affected by that christmas dinner programme. and the sight of all those animals living in squalor..

the turkey that was bred to be so overweight, it couildnt carry its own weight when walking, its legs were shaking, so had to have the deed done by ugly guy milking his semen, and females being inseminated using a turkey baster. all so we can have a turkey that is cheaper. not to mention the squalor they were forced to live in. and compared to the sight of the proud, healthey birds on the organic farm.

ditto Spacedonkey - Too see fresh fruit and vegetables in iceland would be totally against their religion!

spacedonkey · 21/12/2005 20:12

couldn't agree with you more! it's organic happy meat in this household for christmas!

MummyJules · 21/12/2005 20:13

why that would mean actually chopping up something and cooking it and oh my goodness real vitamins and minerals!

Enideepmidwinter · 21/12/2005 20:14

what on earth were you doing in iceland then ?

christmaslovingbluealien · 21/12/2005 20:19

i had to kill a few3 hours as the decorator wouldnt let me and kids back in the house coz all the woodwork was still wet. and as the decorating has been going on for almost a month now, and theyve been off school since friday, id run out of places to take them, without spending a fortune.
oh, and they fell asleep in the car. so i parked in the iceland carpark, and [bad mummy alert] ran in to buy a sandwich, as i was starving, and couldnt face a macdonalds!
hopefully wont happen again.
