Dinner party on Friday night, I have decided to do individual beef wellingtons but not sure what to serve with them. Was maybe thinking of fine green beans and crushed olive oil potatoes?

Potatoes dauphinoise. Any green veg.

KittyWalker · 11/10/2011 21:53

I did think of dauphinoise potatoes but wondered if it would all be a bit too rich. Also considered Pommes Anna or duchess potatoes?

That naturally was in reference to the merlot comment Wink

Aww kitty, i thought you were showing appreciation for MY ideas about pudding. Sad

DaydreamDolly · 12/10/2011 20:18

Immediately what sprang to mind was potato dauphinoise and green beans.

KittyWalker · 12/10/2011 20:19

I have found a lovely dauphinoise recipe, think I will go for that! Thanks for the suggestions and help Smile

Was about to say exactly the same as daydream

WitchesBrewIsMyFriend · 12/10/2011 20:26

my friend did this at a dinner party and served green beans, baby corn and was going to do dauphinoise potatoes but decided that would make the meal too heavy. So she served potatoes sort of sauteed from a Gordon Ramsay recipe.

KittyWalker · 12/10/2011 20:29

That was my initial thought Witches but I have changed my mind - they don't have to have a lot!!! Grin

Your lucky guests! Grin

orienteerer · 12/10/2011 20:52

KittyWalker - your menus sounds great, just remember to include red wineGrin.

KittyWalker · 12/10/2011 22:09

Oh we have plenty of the red stuff Wine Grin! Do you really think they are lucky? I hope they work out Blush

I would suggest fondant potatoes rather than daouphinoise; I think the dauphonoise could be not only too rich, but could out shine the main star. I like to balance my main courses, so if one bit is to be the bride, the bridesmaids - whilst still beautiful in their way - are more simple so as not to compete with the bride.

It went brilliantly thank you for all your help and suggestions! I love Mumsnet Wine Grin

Years and years later ... Kitty, am I being a bit thick here, sorry if so, but guess you went with the dauphinoises, tiny portions of? If you remember!!

Please start a new thread for questions like this. Reviving a zombie thread from four years ago really isn't the best way to get an answer.

Nigellus · 27/11/2015 12:45

OK, and thanks for the helpful friendly supportive well-meaning advice.

RichardinLondon · 25/11/2017 09:21

Tut Tut nigellus. Did you get a reply?

annabel89 · 12/12/2017 00:40
