I have got to take these on a 2 hour car journey. I need to either buy them or make them 3 days in advance so nothing that has to be made from fresh. I guess I could make the parts and assemble quickly when we get there...

I'm vegetarian and ideally it would be suitable for ds (2) as well (mind you he is less fussy than me).

Any ideas? I don't want to be faffing for ages in the kitchen, something quick, easy and preferably achingly stylish that everyone will be talking about all year

quiche??

Anchovy · 20/12/2005 22:10

Bruschetta w/toppings. Cut bread - should be paysan sour dough type stuff, but whatever, ciabatta, french loaf etc - on diagonal into thinnish slices. Spray w/olive oil (optional). Dry in oven - do not allow to brown though. Cool and put in tupperware. Make some toppings (pea or broad bean - frozen - cooked with garlic and whizzed up with olive oil and parmesan, eg. Chopped fresh tomato with a few drops of vinegar and some fresh basil). When you get there, rub garlic clove over bread - optional but yum yum - and put toppings on top. How easy is that?

DD (2) would suggest hula hoops on your fingers as the ultimate party nibble.

Anchovy - I like your son's style! The bruschetta sound definitely the sort of thing. Not sure how much of that I could do 3 days in advance?

Thanks for suggestion overdraft - I should have been more specific: I just need little things to pass round before the meal instead of nuts etc.

stamp out rounds from pitta bread and toast in oven until crisp

top with hummus and olives
or veg pate and a parmesan shaving

thanks be to delia

harpsiheraldangelssing · 21/12/2005 08:32

yes I do those Enid
Delia's Christmas is the Holy Book round here
Ido a nice dip which is brick of philidephia cheese (in the silver paper), with coriander and sweet chilli dipping sauce mixed in
you can chop the corinder small or rip it into bigger chunks, and varythe amount of chilli sauce
it's kinda retro but everyone likes it
you can dip whatever you like in it
celery in your case
kettle chips for normal people

Stop stalking me HC, you are not coming near my mangoes and that's that.

I think I will do the dukkah thing Enid, with bite sized home made bread rolls and olive oil to dip?

If it doesn't work out I will do pitta bready hummus thing.
