Is Christmas Dinner really THAT important to you?

Just curious, and following on from other threads.

You see, it isn't for me. We always have something nice. DH and DD are having fillet steak. I am having a fish in creamy sauce off pastry parcel thing (will prep day before). Serving it with lots of roasted veggies, and some prouts

But I don't spend ages over it, and it is a really small part of our day.

Maybe it is because it is just the three of us on the day.

We have chocolate for breakfast, chocolate for pudding and chocolate for tea . Well, maybe some soup and fresh bread for supper. And a decent, but easily prepared meal in the middle of the day.

i really do treat it as the one day where I am not prepared to spend half the day int he kitchen. I want to be inthe living room, drinking champagne with DH, watching DD open and play with her presents all morning instead.

Is anyone else in the lazy camp too?

I am a living Christmas nightmare of a person. Christmas eve always ends in exhaustion and tears - I want the entire house spotless, cupboards bulging with food, everything immaculately wrapped, all cards up, no washing left undone, clean clothes laid out for the next day, table laid for breakfast, beds made up with fresh bedding and old bedding already washed and put away etc etc etc I am dreading tomorrow already! I know I should chill out but can?t help it - it is totally out of my control
Christmas Day for me is something to strive for rather than sit back and chill out surrounded by piles of paper and mess. I would love to be different but I guess it is too ingrained in me now. I will be up before the children baking bread for breakfast and prepping lunch. Our lunch will be the full works traditional thing with everything made form scratch other than the turkey and the pud! Ironically, the cooking is the only bit I find not stressful in the slightest and really enjoy - the cleaning and perfectionist bit before the relaxing day is the hard bit. Cooking for eight with all the trimmings in the easy bit.
We are having:
canapes and cava
homemade pate/goats cheese with homemade walnut bread
Roast chicken (prefer to turkey, sorry), stuffing, sausage and bacon things, roast parsnips, pots, carrots, other numerous veg, gravy, bread suace, cranberrys in orange, good bottle of chataeau neuf du pape to wash it down
Christmas pud/ice cream/choc mousee with nice honey wine
Cheese board for those still stupid enough to continue
Tea. mince pies throughout afternoon, shortbread etc
Hot and cold evening buffet - quiche, mini jacket pots etc
Hot choc (boozy version with chilli and vodka) and bed.
Phew. Can?t wait!

Curry????!!!!!
Actually, this is my meal of choice for Christmas Eve - from the brilliant take away in next village. Always too knackered to cook on Xmas Eve

XP, you've just described my perfect Christmas. Can I come, can I, please?

I'm assuming of course that you have a champagne breakfast?

I'm away from home this year and completely at the mercy of strangers. In Australia!! It's probably going to be seafood . And they don't approve of champagne at breakfast

Hi notasleep.
We actually do have curry ( except DD3 whe chooses to have a chicken and bacon lasagne) for our Christmas Dinner! We get a take away late on christmas eve which we put in the fridge after cooling. We haet it in the microwave on Christmas Dinner. The children all prefer this as we have a big get together with my family on Boxing Day when we have the traditional Christmas Dinner.
I don't actually mind cooking Christmas Dinner but my DH doesn't want anybody to spend a lot of time in the kitchen on Christmas Day.

Mummee- Alas I will be eating Turkey at MIL when i would prefere to be dishing out soup to the homeless
