DD wants birthday icecream...

Yes, I know, she's slightly odd for not liking cake. Last year we layered loads of different flavours & sweets & sauces (all fruity,) into a large perspex bowl & put her candles on that, which she loved.
It's her 13th this year, so I was having a think - do you think it would work putting it into some kind of cake of jelly mould? The only drawback I could think of would be that you wouldn't see the icecream through the side, and you probably wouldn't be able to pop it out of the mould without defrosting it?
Or am I being dense and this is a really bad plan?

You could give it a framework/support structure with wafer biscuits if you wanted it be more freestanding

How about making some sort of bombe.

When I lived in the US, on people's birthday there would always be cake in the office and frequently it was 'icecream cake' - its not an unusual idea. If you google that you should find recipes.

Yes they are all the rage here on Australia too. More the norm than ordinary birthday cakes in fact. I bet there are recipies all overvt the Internet. I have definitely got one for one of those barbie cakes as my dd wanted it but I did it with real cake instead. Do you want me to look in the book?

How about a baked alaska? Very impressive but easy - ds had one for his birthday cake once...

Blancmange moulds well - I remember begging my mum to make a blancmange bunny for me when I was about 5. It had green jelly grass and everything

I bet you could make it, set it, turn it out then freeze it... (would take up a lot of room in the freezer though)

lmao eglu - not sure dd's friend's parents would be too keen on the rum/limoncello in that recipe - but definitely one for an adult dinner party! :o
But DH has said she just wants to stick a load of flavours in a bowl again, so no icecream cakemaking for me this year! :( Maybe next year though!

You could mould her favourite flavour of ice cream in a bowl and then coat it in grated chocolate. You could decorate with sparkler candles.

I had this problem recently and struggled to buy and ice cream cake which didn't also contain sponge.

I eventually got one through Rizza's ice cream. website here Be clear with them about the size of the cake though - their idea of a portion size and mine were vastly different

Wow - that website's fantastic - I get so bored of having to pick the same old blardy flavours - whenever we go to France they always have the most fabulous choice of flavours, even in the tiny little village restaurants - and we always say 'Why can't you get that choice in the UK!?'

As I say, just watch the size of the cakes as the little one we got was TINY.

We got the bottom one on this page here and it was the size of a side plate. I should have guessed by the price.

It was enough ice cream tbh but it looked really puny.

We used to pop out a Ben and jerrys type tub and stck meringues round the edges, decorate with whipped cream and stick the candles on top.
