Boxing Day Menu Help Please...

I have my parents, my newphew, his girlfriend and their little girl coming over for Boxing day to join me, dp and dd for lunch. My aunt always cooks a ham and serves it with red cabbage and baked potatoes and have always loved it and thought I would start this tradition however DP being the grumpy man he is at the moment doesn't want ham so I just wondered if you all had any ideas? Bearing in mind that this is my dads family and they're not foodies like moi!

TIA,

Jules x

I like lamb on Boxing Day. Jamie's slow-cooked lamb shoulder is very nice, and is included in my plans for Christmas week.

turkey curry

mazzystar · 18/12/2005 21:27

can never face anything to heavy on boxing day

so we shall probably have a frenchish fish stew type thing with croutons and rouille and cheese

MummyJules · 18/12/2005 21:29

sorry spelling area nephew not NEWPHEW! oops!

French stew sounds nice and so does the lamb!... but definately not the turkey curry as I am sick to death of turkey by the end of christmas day! lol

we have ifits, (as it's only us two)

but our family tradition is everyone brings a plate of cold food and we do a bufet type thing with bread and cold meats - normally beef ham pork and turkey pickled onions crisps sausage rolls sausages etc. cakes.. hmmm missing home now

men normally go to the pub as well for a bit whilst the women sort out the dinenr then we meet them there for an hour (now we're all older) then home for food/pressies.

we always do a buffet, so you could have ham and whatever dh wants.

We do like Munz.

This year my mum has bought some bits and is cooking them off to bring as cold cuts.

We're buying a ham joint too, smoothered in honey. Yummmmm.

Agree with Enid, try and talk your dh round. You can't beat a good ham joint IMO.

NewBethlehemGirlwithsparkles · 19/12/2005 11:48

Or what about a beef joint?

I have FIL coming over (day after Boxing day but what's the difference?). I'm doing a large pie as he is really, really picky about what he eats (steak and mushroom), then I'll do salmon as an alternative (his fiancee and I both weightwatchers).

Served with Jackets Pots and salads.
