Help! World falling out of 3 year old's bottom..(graphic!)

Ds is just 3.

His poos are always sudden and not too solid (sorry!)

He does eat a lot of fruit and veg - he would always choose an apple rather than a biscuit. Although he will not eat potatoes - a couple of chips at most. Breakfast is possibly too high in fibre - Weetabix or Shreddies occasionally Ready Brek.

What can I feed him to make everything a bit more "solid" (eewwwww) IYSWIM?

He's struggling with using the toilet and this element of surprise in his pants can't be helping. Please help - I can't face cleaning the pebble dash for much longer!

pasta, rice, sweet potato, swede, parsnip,

LOL, my ds1 is like this and toilet training was somewhat messy.

The things that help a bit for us are: giving him full fat milk (we were using semi-skimmed), more bananas, and less dried fruit. BTW we decided to change the milk because keeping a high fat diet is supposed to help alleviate toddler diarrhoea - he hasn't been diagnosed but I thought I'd give it a try and it does seem to help.

It may be relevant that ds1 has gone off fruit a bit recently though, although he's eating more veg instead so I'm not sure.

Thanks Furball and Gingernut! Will switch to full fat milk and up the pasta intake. Hadn't thought about sweet potato - have got stacks in for weaning dd, so will do some for ds and try to persuade him potato is good!

Any other ideas? I hate having to tell ds to sop eating apples!

Bananas are sometimes blamed for bunging children up so perhaps giving him a banana instead of an apple sometimes might help?

throckenholt · 15/12/2005 14:49

definitely stear clear of dried fruit - particularly apricots .

More bread maybe - something like granary not wholemeal.

DD is always very loose - some times worse than others. I have started giving her probiotics to introduce some friendly bacteria to her gut and hopefully save me a fortune on toilet wipes (splatter alert!)
