Question for GF mothers about weaning

I am enjoying following her weaning book (and so is ds) but do not know where I can get baby barley for the fifth month. Also how do change from fifth month plan to sixth month recipe ideas?Should I do it gradually with protein at lunch and just baby rice and fruit for tea?

mimm - I used the basic CLBB not the weaning book but I'm sure it had a "week 1", "week 2" type meal chart.

I seem to remember we started DS with chicken and fish, then introduced other protein's slowly. He probably didn't have pork, lamb or beef until 8 months or so.

Defnintely protein at lunch and vegie for tea. I started trying DS on more "meal-type" things for tea such as mash potato with cheese, or pasta with a tomato sauce, or "risotto" (babyrice and veg). Couscous is also good but better when your DD able to handle more texture.

Don't know about baby barley. Could you cook it up and put it in the blender? I know pasta goes all rubbery in the blender but don't know about barley.

We used more meals from Annabel Karmel, plus old favourites like beef stew put through the blender (comes up really sweet and DS loves it).

I used the book as a guide but didn't stick to it by the letter. I didn't use baby barley at all. I can't remember the exact plans, but if you mean how do you get from baby rice/fruit at both meal times to savoury meals, I did what you are suggesting which is replace the baby rice/fruit or just pureed veg at lunch time with a protein based option. One day, just whack a little bit of chicken in the blender with the veg and see what happens. One of the things that I find works well is mixing something savoury (like chicken) in with something sweet which they like (like pureed apple). All goes down well and you can then reduce the amount of apple you put in gradually.
Hope this helps
