No talk of Paxo or Bisto puhleeeeeeeze!!!!!!

How about the booze issue????

I think Christmas Eve will be a seafood feast as usual (crabs from the lleyn peninsula are the best in the world!)
Lashings of Miuscadet to accompany and perhaps tropica lfruit afterwards.

Christmas Day.......goose and stuffed apples with spiced red cabbage, brussel sprouts, root vegetable mash (turnip, parsnip and carrots with cream and nutmeg) and roast potatoes. Good Burgundy avec
Smoked salmon and caviar blinis to start with vats of Champagne.
Christmas pudding,Stilton and oatcakes with a Sauternes.

New Years Eve....rolled pork belly and quince compote followed by a pavlova. Not sure of the accompaniments or the wine at present.

Over to you lot.....

Nightynight · 17/12/2005 11:33

well I never, its phyllo in greek! why on earth where you using the greek spelling moondog? I have never even seen it spelt fillo. well that's me told. Leiths leaves a lot to be desired, my course there clearly left me wanting

bosscatsroastingonanopenfire · 17/12/2005 18:12

my god in heaven there is actually a website called www.fillo.com can you believe it?? you got to love the web!

Blandmum · 17/12/2005 18:12

We are having a freerange turkey crown that is prepared by the local butcher, he uses his own stuffing recipe, which is a much kept secret and is superb.....we had it last year. I'll cook it with roased potatoes and all the veg and proper gravy! I'll have fizz because I like it and it ges with the smoked samon starter.....dh doesn't drink

I'll also cook a ham and make some cumberland sauce to go with that on Boxing day

We also have some wonderful local cheeses

moondog · 17/12/2005 21:35

Dh doesn't drink mb??? blimey...

Bosscat.....have a soft spot for Greeks. (Well I did have,in my wild and carefree youth. Enough said eh??)

Leiths eh??? Oooooh,get you !!!

Had pancreatitis 8.5 years ago, never drank much then. Was told to quit and has never drunk alcohol since then

Enideepmidwinter · 17/12/2005 21:37

moony have decided to drive down to west bay and buy crabs for xmas eve now (40 mins)

gggimmesnowsnow · 17/12/2005 21:38

Who is cooking their goose, and how?

Enideepmidwinter · 17/12/2005 21:40

I am doing one now on NYE

with mash inside a la simon hopkinson

bossykate · 17/12/2005 21:40

moondog, aren't you rather sniffy about turkey crowns? i'm not, think they are ideal for smaller gatherings and since they are only effectively a "joint" of turkey making a fuss about them is surely the same as making a fuss about having a leg of lamb instead of the whole carcase?

in fact, i have been rather cheered by this thread - for a non-foodie it has been very unintimidating actually!

Enideepmidwinter · 17/12/2005 21:44

which is to be utterly sniffy about turkey crowns

bossykate · 17/12/2005 21:46

gah! this is my problem with self styled "foodies"... the term "crown" and "twizzler" are not interchangeable, you know

when are you sitting down for your welsh marsh grazed carcase then?

Enideepmidwinter · 17/12/2005 21:48

lol

have considered buying one from m and s purely for left overs as my lovely free range organic bronze is going to the PILs where we are now having 14 for lunch (barely leftovers )

bossykate · 17/12/2005 21:51

better buying a small turkey for leftovers if that's what you want - because you won't get any with an m&s crown...

Enideepmidwinter · 17/12/2005 21:53

no we won't 'eat' it, it would be cooked and cooled for sandwiches

mind you then we wont get any nice dark meat and bones

bossykate · 17/12/2005 21:55

perhaps you could really just get a small one then. you could also coronation the leftovers - but i suppose i will really get kicked off this thread for that suggestion!

gggimmesnowsnow · 17/12/2005 22:43
