a food processor with a standard blade, thick and thin slicer discs, fine and coarse graters and a whisk and beater. I need this in order to be able to successfully complete his 30 minute meals. So, which one shall I buy?

Magimix :) Bit pricey but tough as old boots.

gemmummy · 03/09/2011 13:13

little bit out of my price range I'm afraid I have a max budget of £150. I have a few kitchen gadgets already like a good stick blender so it's only a fd processor that I need. Any cheaper ones out there?

I have a Kenwood processor which was not much more than that and it's about 15 years old, still going strong. Amazon have one here which is much cheaper.

gemmummy · 03/09/2011 13:20

thanks ginganinja that is much more in my price range. what about the whisk bits?

OP posts:
gemmummy · 03/09/2011 13:21

disregard that, i've just seen some whisk bits. think i might give that one a go, don't want to spend lads if i don't need too.

It does have a whisk, although it took me at least a good couple of minutes to work that out Blush

WidowWadman · 03/09/2011 13:30

We've got this one as a belated wedding presents and it made our lives so much better (although gets very much in the way of my attempts to lose weight)

Just looked at magimix on amazon-shocking! I am sure when we bought ours a few years ago it was more in the 150 range. And I only remember that because we had a Pre children gadget crazy time when we bought kitchen aid too and that was double the magimix price Blush

talkingnonsense · 03/09/2011 14:24

I have a John Lewis one that had been good so far- was about £80.

OvO · 03/09/2011 14:24

I had that Kenwood one linked to on Amazon. I wouldn't get it. Mine broke down after only a year. Plus the dimensions are just all wrong. The chopping blades are too short so all the bits would end up smooched against the sides but the blades were too short so I'd be left with big bits that I had to chop by hand. Same with the slicer are grater doodahs. It would slice or great the first bits but then the bits would just fall down the sides and I'd have to pick out the big lumps.

I got a new Kenwood and it's a lot smaller (and cheaper) and it works perfectly.

Tis odd as they are the same brand obv.

OvO · 03/09/2011 14:26

Excuse appalling spelling. iPad and auto correct hate me!

HooverTheHamaBeads · 03/09/2011 14:36

Have 10 year old (basic) Kenwood food processor from Argos. Still ticking along although washing it up breaks me every time I can't stand it.

Have fantastic Braun stick/hand blender it is fabulous, had it for 7 years it was about £30 or less and is excellent. Friend has the next model up which comes with a little 'pot' you plug the blender engine into, it is great. WHen this one breaks I'll go for that. this type of thing

I also have electric beater (Kenwood) for cake making.

I do covet a Chefaid/kitchenaid or similar but can get by on all the above which are all "cheap" at £40 or less for each thing.

ComradeJing · 05/09/2011 01:37

I have a very cheap stick blender and the big magimix which is worth every penny IMO. It really does save lots of time in the kitchen.

You can cook Jamies 30 min meals but it will take a lot longer without a FP.

Mine can go in the dishwasher for the wash cycle but not the drying cycle according to the instructions.

Any book that prescribes what equipment I need is a goner ...

I admit that I eventually freecycled my blender - I found my stick blender with chopper and whisk attachment all I req'd.
