Chutney Question

I made some apple chutney with dd earlier, it smells yummy, the only problem is I could only get large jars in my lunch break, dd couldn't possibly wait another day so it's made and in the pots cooling.

I would have prefered to use smaller jars, so I could give them as presents at Christmas (dd plans to design labels).

Would it be possible to transfer the chutney into smaller jars once I've found some (sterilised of course) or am I likely to give everyone food poisoning?

Anyone?

Maybe I'll post in Christmas.

I would but I don't know whether it would be ok or not!!

Yeah it would be possible, you don't get food poisoning from chutney Grin

Thanks for the reassurance, I think it's all the hysteria about sterlised jars.

Remember not to use metal lids with chutney or the vinegar will corrode them.

I used pickling jars, so it should be OK for now, thanks for the tip.

Should I use those paper jar covers?

I'd be inclined to reheat the chutney before rebottling. I would want the contents to be as sterile as possible as well as the jars...
