We're having a sausage + mash bonfire party and I want something easy/warming for the kids to have, preferably something I can make in advance. Any ideas??

Also, any good mulled wine recipies?? TIA.

Not a healthy option and not warming, but I've done this a bonfire night and the kids love it and it is dead easy.

Get 2 large bags of chocolate filled doughnuts, open out the doughnut a little and put in a scoop of ice cream. Voila, no plates, bowls or spoons needed and the kids love it. Youo can make a more sophisticated version usind Ben and Jerrys ice cream for grown ups and add a splash of booze....

If plates are a problem then this wouldn't be any good, but I was wondering about baked apples, you know, with the core stuffed with raisins, sultanas and brown sugar? They could be completely prepared in advance (well, a little while) and then shoved in the oven. They seem quite bonfire-y, but probably too messy. Have a nice time!

homemade rice pudding is my fave winter warmer - served in plastic cups with disposable spoons and a squirty container filled with runny jam so they can do their own patterns/faces on top to make it all go pink. yum.

sorry- again not warming but theres a great idea in a mark hix book for making a pyramid out of white and dark choc krispie cakes (make cakes with cornflakes and melted choc, leave to set then stck together with bit more chocolate to make pyramid) would look fantastic with sparklers in for bonfire party, then just break bits off.

Jelly with sweets in like snakes and things?

LIZS · 19/10/2003 13:04

A fond memory from my childhood - bananas baked in foil, slice them down the middle lengthways and fill with chocolate buttons, bake until they have melted and warmed through.

have to agree with rockingrosebud it has to be jelly.

Or toffee apples.

Choc sponge and custard, I'd do mint custard but it does look gross

butterflymum · 19/10/2003 15:07

Have to agree with llizss suggestion. We used to make these at Cub Scout campfires and they always went down a treat (just have spoons handy to scoop them out - no need for plates). We often used slices of Mars Bar instead of buttons, (mmmmm.....yummy). I even remember trying it with oranges too, slice off top and scoop out some flesh then add chocolate before replacing top and wrapping up.

Have a lovely party whatever you decide.

Wow, thanks for the responses. Am warming to the chocolate end of the scale!! So it may have to be the doughnuts or the choc sponge and custard. But the choc rice crispie mountain sounds great too. Keep 'em coming...

Forgot to say, you might get lots more useful ideas here or even here

Have fun.

I'd go for chocolate brownies and custard myself - or a lovely apple crumble!

Thanks for those sites Butterflymum. It's given me lots of inspiration for our Halloween treats. My dds like to dress up and "trick or treat" except that we make things and take them to our friends houses. My 2 are still young enough not to know the hype and don't expect anything back, so if they get something it's a bonus. They just love making and taking things to their friends. So thanks for those ideas.
