Disagreement with nursery over food. Help!

Ds2 hasn't been eating solids very well for the past few days. I'm not fussed. If he's not eating, he's not hungry. Nursery are getting all het up about it. I don't like that - surely what started as him merely not being hungry will turn into a great game for getting attention.

He is 6 months. He has been eating solids since just before he was 4 months because he was desperate for them. He has been at nursery since he was 3 months. He has a slight cold and is teething. The food we're offering is all stuff he likes (or has liked in the past). He is, and always has been, a very lively baby, and a very good weight (well, I've not had him weighed recently, but just look at him and you'll see a very healthy babe).

Basically, he is healthy, he is happy, he is not hungry. Full stop. If he wants to eat, he will. If he only wants a couple of mouthfuls, that's all he wants. HE KNOWS.

Am I right? The way nursery is going on, maybe I should do something about it? My instinct is not to, but maybe I'm wrong. What do you think?

I would just tell them that he goes off his food when he's teething. Although surely they must know that? Aren't they used to having babies of that age?

I think you're right. After all, many babies don't start solids until 6 months (not being contoversial) so it's no big deal if a 6 month- old isn't intersted.

as long as they can get milk into him I wouldn't worry

As long as he's drinking something, he's fine.

thank you, thank you. I think I will have a firm word.

Yes, he is drinking milk. He is downing 5 bottles of 8 oz of milk a day plus water from a cup with his meals.

teething makes lots of kids avoid their food, heaven knows dd lived on yoghurt for much of her teething episodes, like you Fisil I just thought she will eat again when ready.
The nursery should listen to you surely!

I know. And ds1 lived on bananas and bread for quite a while. I have a poa I've worked out. It's really just one person at nursery who is our concern, but a difficult one to raise an issue about, for various reasons. However, we reckon we've got a way to get them to relax and let him eat what he wants.

thanks all.
