Vegan dinners children will eat

i am currently in the process to switching to a vegan diet, but am struggling with cooking multiple dishes in the evening. So I was wondering if there are any vegans around with ideas as to vegan friendly dishes my young children will love.

They are not a fan of spicy food so my spinach and chickpea curry and chilli went down like lead balloons!

Oh and before anyone starts, not proposing to force veganism on my children yet Grin

Mmm, houmous and baked beans - actually, that is my favourite combination for a jacket potato topping - with a bit of coarse ground black pepper and a dollop of ketchup - dinnery perfection! :)

How do you make white sauce without milk?

Ummm, not vegan (nor even vegetarian) but this recipe that I posted a while ago could be easily adapted.

Watch out for fish sauce in bought Thai curry pastes, such as this one.

white sauce -- Kara is good, or Oatly

Try this site here

Totally great recipes not involving wierd ingredients - fast and quick, so right up your street. I'm not vegan, but I find it brilliant for ideas for DD1 who is dairy/egg allergic (so like vegan, but with meat added iyswim).

One thing to watch with Marmite (I know this for kosher reasons) - some of it is made in the same factory as bovril, which contains beef extract so may contain traces of meat. So, depending on your level of strictness, maybe look for the South African made version which is definitely completely meat free.

MrObama (I assume the real one) was going to make flapjacks with boys next week during holidays so will try with pura. Not sure at what point I'll be so desperate for pizza that I'll try that other recipe but never say never!

Used to love Linda McCartney pies when they first came out.

Will look at that recipe now Jenai and I've already looked at your blog NoHun and loved the dinner recipes....will go over to your thread once children are in bed....

Thanks again, will report back with boys opinions on your recipes (John Torrode eat your heart out!)

abs Shock How do you find the South African version of Marmite?

We are meat eaters but some of our favourite meals are vegan:

  • stir-fried carrots, broccoli, red pepper, spring onions and mushrooms, with or without tofu, in sesame oil with soy sauce
  • pasta, broccoli and pesto (I use bought stuff with Parmesan in, but you could easily whizz some up without. Or is there a vegan cheese substitute you could replace it with?). Or tomato and veg sauce.
  • veg and lentil bake, topped with mashed parsnip.
  • ratatouille
  • butternut, spinach, chickpea and coconut green curry
  • humous with crudités and breadsticks
  • falafel pitas with humous (I add crumbled feta but of course you can leave that out), tomatoes, red onion and salad
  • if you can get vegan puff pastry you can do all kinds of tarts - I like tapenade and courgette (fry the courgettes first) with basil, and a tomato salad.

Btw, youcan get seitan here! I buy it in tins, either at holland and Barrett or at my local Chinese grocery under the name "Mock Duck". grin
