We've nailed the recipe for the dessert (Nigella's Mini Chocolate Puddings).
He now needs an idea for a simple, CHEAP, main course that he can make and bring home.

a quiche? very easy to make

3 eggs, 150ml of cream and a couple of handfuls of grated cheese

If could he use ready made base? although not sure how 'food tech' that would be! but he could claim that obviously he would make his own if the lesson was longer - get them in most supermarkets

you can put in what filling he likes) be it brocolli, peppers, onion, bacon etc.
(think about quickly frying the veg first to soften

mix all the ingredients together and pop in the oven for 30 ish mins (on 190 ish)

Thanx furball, he has now decided he wants to make a chicken stir fry which should be quite easy.
I'll suggest a honey and soy sauce sauce IFYSWIM!
I love the look of the sausage dish, might try that meself!

Agree the sausages sound yummy. Our problem is finding things that can be done in the time. DD says they really get barely 40 minutes to actually cook because of clearing up. So, you do need packet pastry and preboiled spuds else you don't finish.

Didn't think of that aspect startail.
All went well in the end, the stir fry was very nice in fact!!
