When should she start to try and feed herself?

Was just wondering really! Dd sometimes tries to grab the spoon, but only to throw it on the floor, but I don't want to not let her have a go if she's old enough iyswim (E is 10 months now). She also shows no interest in finger food, she'll eat it if I feed her, but not left to her own devices. She picks it up well enough but it never reaches her mouth!

neh - no need to worry yet - tbh the longer they leave it the better as less mess and they're more likely to be poricient when they do want to have a go

aw you should let her try! even if it goes nowhere near her tummy, its all about practice. just keep spooning it in at the same time.

We let dd aged 9 months yesterday have a go.
She had eaten half her chicken casserole and was just nibbling, i could tell so, i gave her the spoon and enjoyed my meal. She looked at me, DP, dd1, back at me then grinned and had a go. Not much went in her mouth but i think she really enjoyed it

Thanks for your replies, I'm torn between the hideously clean part of me and the experiment is good for her part of me!!!! Shall just invest in a large splashmat and go for it methinks!

If shes' interested let her start. One spoon for her, one spoon for you.
