so, i have a massive cabbage in my veg box again.
i like cabbage but it takes us forever to get through them!

don't eat meat... and don't really have any fancy ingredients in the cupboard... but can anyone suggest something to liven it up a bit?

Savoy cabbage?

Try stir-frying onion, shredded cabbage, grated carrot and Merchant Gourmet chestnuts (they're vacuum packed and really easy to cook - taste beautiful too) - for meat-eaters, add bacon. Bit of soy sauce, touch of fruit juice, dash of mirin if you have it. Lovely.

Potato and cabbage gratin - it's yummy!

3 or 4 medium/large spuds, parboiled and sliced. Half a cabbage. Half a pint of cream. Onion (optional). Grated cheese of your choice, I use parmesan. butter, salt and pepper, crushed garlic.

Layer all the ingredients, extra cheese on top, seal tightly with foil. Cook in oven at 200 degrees for about 45 mins - 1 hour, take foil off and cook for a further 15-20 minutes, until the cabbage has cooked down really nicely and the cheese is all brown and bubbling on top. Oh, the butter is to grease the dish with and dot on the top. Works well with Curly Kale too - which is even harder to make interesting than cabbage!!

Fry a sliced small onion with a crushed garlic clove in a little olive oil to soften.

Add 1/2 a savoy cabbage thinly sliced. Fry for approx 1 min. Add a teaspoon of caraway seeds. Fry for another minute or so. Add a glass of dry white wine. Heat until alchohol cooked off. Cover and let it steam for about a minute.

Recipe courtesy of DH (we do it at Christmas)

Put it on to simmer now - should be ready for Sunday lunch!

Grate cabbage and carrots. Heat olive oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and mustard seeds, let them pop for a bit (but not burn) add cabbage and carrot, stir everything around and leave covered on a low heat until cooked.
