was flicking through some cookery books earlier thinking exactly the same thing! came across parmasan parsnips that look really nice and can be prepared the day before.Thinking about though, perhaps we are worrying to much, they are bloomin lucky we are cooking for them in the first place !

gotta be chestnut stuffing... just roasted the chestnuts to freeze the other night.

Oh, and sprouts, obviously. Preferably cooked for so long they actually slip through your fork

We have a starter and then Goose rather than Turkey and roasted parsnips with honey glaze, sprouts with crispy bacon, roast and mashed pots, peas, carrots cooked in orange juice, pigs in blankets, gravy and to finish we have traditional Xmas pudding with a nice alcohol based suace and cheese & biscuits, coffee and mints.

we just have the usual but with some nice stuffing !
If you're stuck for ideas why not have a butchers at St Delia's Christmas - it's on offer in WHS at the mo....?

Parmesan parsnips are really really yummy. I did them last year and yep they are prepped the night before, and so easy peasy on the day

Serah · 17/11/2005 20:37

yes yes, very good - now will someone post the recipe for parmesan parsnips please???

Can't have my turkey without bread sauce ... mmmmmmmmm . Tried Delia's recipe for the parsnips one year and they were beautiful - here

Mine were similar to the Delia recipe link, only less faffy I think. I just did them how she suggests, then roasted them as normal the next day - no added butter, pouring off fat etc, just turning once in the oven

We have turkey with bacon rolls and little sausages. I usually do stuffing balls as I always worry about the turkey not cooking properly if I stuff it so I end up overcooking it. Nothing worse than dry turkey. Then sprouts with chestnuts, honey sesame parsnips and roast potatoes. I do one other veg that changes every year. Last year it was red cabbage cooked in red wine a la Nigella. Nice but probably won't make a reappearance this year. We just had a a baby so I'm thinking something simple like green beans with sliced almonds and butter. Plus gravy and cranberry sauce. Dessert is usually yule log or trifle as we don't like the traditional pudding in our house.

I'm a big Nigella fan and she does a nice Christmas meal in her book Feast. I especially love her ideas of what to do with the leftovers. We always do bubble & squeak on Boxing Day with the leftover roasties, parsnips and sprouts and I did a turkey pie last year that was fab. I think DH actually prefers the leftover dishes to the meal itself!
