Best ever chocolate cake recipes

I'm in search of the perfect chocolate cake recipe and made yet another one yesterday and yet again, it was ok, but nothing special and didn't really hit the spot. I'm looking for a dense layer type cake with a chocolatey fudgy icing. Anyone got any tried and tested recipes that they would recommend?

I find any chocolate cake that doesnt contain real chocolate a total disappointment. I have tried various cakes containing different quantities of cocoa powder but still hasnt that depth of flavour.

Made your cake yesterday for DD's birthday. Wow! Delicious, very easy to make, totally yummy.

Buttercream icing in middle and cream on top (first time I'd ever done piping, I'm more of a traybake gal).
