Chocolate Readybrek

Weetabix tell me they've stopped making chocolate Readybrek, which is a disaster for my household, as it's the only decent cereal my disabled son will eat - he needs the oats to keep him going, as he uses up much more energy than an average child.

Anyone want to join me in a campaign to persuade themn to reverse this decision? The only alternative is their 'Swirls' which aren't so chocolatey (despite having more 'real' chocolate) and costs more, as it's packaged in individual sachets. My son doesn't like 'Swirls' as it tastes different. Weetabix say:

"Swirls have been developed, after extensive market research, recognising as we did the ever-increasing popularity of this type of product. They contribute a tasty, winning formula to our range for which the response is overwhelming enthusiasm.

We appreciate, however, that not everyone will agree and do view any criticism seriously. Our Marketing Department takes careful note of the broad spectrum of consumer reaction to all our products. Your comments will be passed to them"

I say - help me tell them we want chocolate readybrek back! If enough parents join in, they might listen.

Many thanks!

They still have it in our local ASDA store in Derby, try yours and bulk buy!!!

Um, I think one of the Supermarkets sells their own brand of choc readybrek? Shall i check? had argument with dh this week who wanted to buy it but my ds (also sn) stuck on porridge with golden syrup instead!! Have also made choc readybrek in emergency by using ordinary readybrek and chocolate spread meltewd together?

Happy to join campaign if wanted, I reckon kids are far better off with a bowl of hot readybrek in chocolate that a can of coke and mars bar grabbed on the way to school!

mancmum · 13/11/2005 13:53

I personally don't use it as am a witch of a mother who does not allow kids choc cereal but totally understand your need for it and so would be more than happy for you to use my name to support any campaign... I can imagine how hard it is to find a new cereal that your son likes if he does not want to give up his choc readybrek!

could you maybe add chocolate milk to ordinary readbybrek? (or hot chocolate?)

maybe you could experiment to see if they will work

As an ex-marketeer .. I think you will fight a losing battle with them to reinstate the brand

mojomummy · 13/11/2005 14:02

yes I'll join in, my DD doesn't eat it, but I'm pretty sure choc readybrek is a good/better cereal than the swirls you mentioned. is it full of ingredients you can't pronounce & hydrogenated fats ?

I'm fed up with cereals on the whole. I have trouble finding banana whetabix & when looking at alternative the other day - found 3
one with 'healthy' cereal with BEEF GELATINE in it

I was going to suggest adding some cocoa or drinking choc to the hot milk, too, 2dot.

Hope it works!

SoupDragon · 13/11/2005 15:09

Er... you can easily just stir in a square or 2 of chocolate to plain ready brek. It works perfectly and you can amend the amount of chocolate as required. I use plain chocolate

SoupDragon · 13/11/2005 15:10

If you put proper choc in, you end up with less cr*p ingredients too.

I also have a DS who is a very fussy eater and particularly enjoys chocolate readybrek. I have been trying to replenish my stock for weeks now, and have only just realised (thanks to yourselves) that it has been discontinued!

I will support your campaign to get the line re-instated if you wish.

DS refuses to eat the chocolate swirls, so I did try mixing chocolate into original readybrek, but still ended up with something that DS refused to eat. Maybe the drinking chocolate will work better (watch this space)?

Incidentally, Weetabix are still advertising chocolate readybrek on their web-site!

I've always refused to pay the inflated price of choc ReadyBrek. I make my own with own brand hot oat cereal and a dollop of chocolate spread in it. Boys love it and I'm guaranteed to get a healthy-ish hot breakfast into them in the morning.
