Easy pizza recipe (base/sauce)

While I'm feeling organised, I keep meaning to come and ask for the easiest possible pizza base and/or pizza sauce recipe. "Easiest" criteria being:

  1. Requiring the least possible amount of washing up
  2. That a 2.7 year old could help with without creating ridiculous amounts of havoc

I can't just buy a plan pizza base and decorate it because I need to make one without cheese :)

can you use butter?

soggybottomflancase · 23/05/2011 13:49

This is pretty simple if you are alright with butter and milk

227g tin chopped tomatoes
1 medium onion sliced
1/2 tsp dried basil
75g wholemeal self raising flour
75g self raising flour
40g butter
75 ml fresh milk
whatever to go on top
place tomatoes onion and basil in pan and cook until thickened.
rub flours and butter to make breadcrumbs and milk and mix to soft dough (like scone recipe) rollout.
Assemble pizza then bake at 200 c for 20 mins, wash up one pan one bowl, measuring jug, spoon, scale pot and baking tray. wipe down work surface and rolling pin.
I know what you mean about the washing up, dp acts like a tv chef when he cooks measuring everything out into different little bowls.

Jus Roll do pizza dough in a tub & a jar of sauce. It's usually in the butter/dairy/fresh pastry section ot Morrisons or Sainsbury's. I think it's about £1.99 or so. You twist open the tub, extract & roll out the dough then spread with the sauce. Then it's up to you what you put on it. They're really nice.

the one in Domestic Goddess is very good, needs just one mixing bowl and a baking tray, and dd1 loves to help with it. the recipe is dairy free - just flour, salt, yeast, water and olive oil - i can copy the quantities for you later if you like.

Yes butter/milk all fine :) Thanks

my pizza dough (for one baking tray)
250g flour
100ml water
50ml olive oil
half a tablespoon dried active yeast (or fast action works as well)
pinch of salt

mix together, leave for half an hour, roll out.

for the topping I use tomatoe paste double concentrate and top with whatever we like and have at hand.

bake for around 20 min at 200 (fan oven)

Here is a simple one that my dad made when I was little and I still use it, taste better than Pizza Express:

1 cup lukewarm water
Yeast (see pack, use half amount of recommended amount)
Strong white flour (not sure how much)
Good pinch of salt
Dash oil (olive oil or what you have)

Use large bowl. Add yeast to water, then oil and salt. Keep adding flour till you can't stir with a wooden spoon, then start kneading in bowl (if bowl is small, you have to knead on kitchen counter, ie. more cleaning up). Knead until dough is soft and firm. Leave to rise til double size (can stay longer).

Turn oven to highest.

Roll dough out thinly-ish on floured kitchen counter and transfer to floured baking tray (this is for two large pizzas) to cover baking tray.

Sauce: 1 tin (the small one) tomato pure mixed w equal amount water. Spread on pizzas and add your toppings. Bake in oven for 10-20 min. depending on oven - take out when crust is getting golden.

Thanks Charlotte :) If you don't mind then yes another recipe would be great, but if it's any trouble then don't worry as I've got lots here to choose from :)

250g flour
1tsp easy blend yeast
1/2 tsp salt
150ml warm water
2tbsp olive oil

mix the above into a dough. when it comes together, knead for 5 mins . makes a very sticky dough. roll into a ball and put in an oiled bowl and move it around to cover lightly with oil. leave somewhere warm for 1hr until it doubles in size.

knock it back, stretch over a baking sheet. cover with 200g chopped tinned toms and season. cook for 20mins at gas 9. the dough should sound hollow when knocked. then add your toppings and cook for another 5-10 mins.

for sauce, do this:

1 tin of Sainsbury's Chair de Tomate (it's with the tinned tomatoes and passata, it's a small tin, about 69p)
drizzle of olive oil
pinch of Maldon salt (because I love it. Regular table salt would be fine)
grind of black pepper
pinch of dried oregano

Mix together in a bowl. Use it as it is to top your pizza. Little ones can even make the sauce themselves because it doesn't require cooking.

I do one batch of dough in the breadmaker which makes 4 side plate size bases for children, and this is usually enough sauce to top all 4.
