For those with vegetarian children - omega 3

I was wondering how many of you give your vegetarian children an omega 3 supplement and if you do, which one?

I try to include lots of flaxseed, nuts, seeds, etc in their diet but still give them Wellkid as a paranoid mum. Before they went veggie I used to give them the Haliborange omegas, so the paranoia doesn't stem from them being veggie... Wink

There seem to be a lot more options for veggie omega 3 supplements for children in the US - not so much here.

IMO thecoo it's just marketing! if you go to a good H.F. shop they should give advice but from what you say i wouldn't worry as long as they have plenty of fresh org. fruit and veg.

So do your kid(s) just get their omega 3 from diet ppeatfruit? I'm not really worried about general vitamins as I think they do get plenty from fruit and veg, but do wonder if they get enough omega 3 from their diet.

Having said that, before they were veggie they never ate fish anyway, so they probably get a lot more omega 3 naturally now than they did before, as I'm conscious to give them good sources.

I wouldn't worry either - Flax seeds are an excellent source of Omegas, probably better than fish -

I used to give DD hemp oil when she was smaller, thats a good source too, you can add it to porridge, broth etc - but I doubt you need to worry as sounds like you are doing alll the right things - Spirulina is a good natural superfood supplement - more iron than liver etc etc - & contains lots of other goodies too - though get the tabs & cut them up for small mouths - powder is foulEnvy

& I agree with PPbear as regards it all being just marketing

Thanks both of you - very reassuring! :)

Thanks both! As a footnote i don't know if you are aware that eating fruit on an empty stomach gives you the full benefits of the vitamins whereas straight after a meal is actually bad 'cos it rots before the meal is fully digested.
