How to make a tomato sauce?

Honest this isn't a wind up!

I usually open a tin of tomatoes for a sauce for meatballs, but I've loads of spare salad toms so I thought I'd use them.

Do I just blitz them in a blender with some sugar or do I add anything else?

whatever you like! what's the sauce for? you'll probably need to cook them first to soften them too.

For a lovely pasta sauce ..

Take the skins off by soaking them in boiling water then pricking them.
Chop them.
Fry a finely chopped onion in olive oil (perhaps some celery too) until soft. Add finely minced garlic near the end of the frying.
Add tomatoes and any herbs (basil, oregano. Bring back to boil and simmer on lowest possible heat until the sauce has reduced in size by 50%.

It's for meatballs which have onions, garlic in already.

Just want it really plain to add to the spagetti at the end.

Any more suggestions?

you have to blanche and peel them first otherwise they'll be all bitty then do what you normally do

I make tomato sauce the same way spidermama does - I add a teaspoon of sugar along with the herbs though.

Do remove the skins first; you can make that easier by making a little nick in the skin before you put them into the boiling water.
