Cheap, cheerful, tasty child friendly restuarants in London?

We normally go to Sofras, but maybe fancied a change. Can anyone recommend somewhere we can go with DS (1 tomorrow!!) for his birthday meal where we would be able to get a deal for two courses under a tenner? I would be especially interested in anywhere on the district/hammersmith and city or piccadilly lines. Please!!

Tootsies?I used to work there and we did loads of parties. They used to do a special deal I think There is one at Turnham Green/Chiswick and several others all over London

Don't know if you can get 2 courses for under a tenner but the Giraffe restaurants are v nice and kid friendly

Flossam · 07/11/2005 19:43

What I can see of the Giraffe place looks great. They don't seem to have a website though. My mum isn't a burger or american food kind of girl (never has chips unless it's with battered cod!) so not sure tootsies will be her thing. Went to the one in Canary Wharf not long after it opened with Dp though.

It's www.giraffe.net and we went without kids and thought it was fab, seemed reasonably priced too and there are lots of them around London.

Tas in Southwark or London Bridge is really really yummy and child-friendly. Can't think if either are on the right Tube line though.

Is Ozer one of the Sofra restaurants? I think it may be ...

We like Nandos, Brown's, Wagamama's. All these are chains, so there are plenty of options.

Flossam · 07/11/2005 19:55

Helsy, do you recall if the mains were priced under a tenner? There is a new one along the southbank which would just break up our journey wonderfully .

I've seen Tas, but it's thai isn't it? fussy eater alert!! Have never tried Wagamamas so might have a look at that too. We are difficult because mum is a bit of a chain food snob, bless her, and I am so damn fussy. Am trying to change. I now eat courgette!

Giraffe is fab but not that cheap. They do have menus with prices on the website.

What we normally do for a cheap option is go to a family-run Italian. They usually have some special deal on if you look around, and are always wonderfully friendly and accomodating to children. Will try to remember the last one we went to...

Tas is Turkish, Flossam. Delicious, lots of aromatic dishes, lovely breads, olives. DD loves it. And it is really cheap too.

frannyandzooey · 07/11/2005 20:01

Here. The offers are down the left hand side - kids eat free, or 2 for 1 on main courses. They were lovely to us and the kids portions were huuuuge.

Eaney · 07/11/2005 20:06

Tas is near Waterloo , Blackfriars and Southwark stations. I used to work near it and it gets a lot of work people at lunchtime during the week. My experience anyway. It is good though.

NotQuiteCockney · 07/11/2005 20:06

I hate chains, but don't eat in central London often enough to have good recommendations that aren't chains.

Oh, Leon is nice, also a chain, but not much of a one. Not sure if there's one near where you want.

Where are you going from/to?

Flossam · 07/11/2005 20:33

Hi sorry we are going from Hammersmith to Barking. Bit of a trek!

Hmm, there are a couple of nice restaurants, including a nice non-chain Wagamama's type place, at Mile End (district line). Probably a bit far in your journey? The South Bank is a nicer bit of London.

NotQuiteCockney · 07/11/2005 21:38

Those Tas restaurants sound good, I think we will check them out sometime.

hoxtonchick · 07/11/2005 21:39

carluccios is fab. good kids menu, and they're really helpful. the food is very good quality & reasonably priced. they might fall into the chain category though!

Flossam · 08/11/2005 09:16

Still undecided! Mum usually pays you see and is a bit short this month, but then, so are we. it's just we have been to Sofras about 4 times!
