Vegetarian sandwich fillings that aren't nut?

DD is having her birthday party in a park soon. She has several children coming who are vegetarian and don't eat eggs and can't eat nuts.
Any idea's beyond hummus and salad that I can use?

marmite
veggie grated cheese, plain or with pickle

what age are the children?

gorionine · 23/04/2011 09:02

Quorn slices?
Veg cheese?

some do eat fish , would they have tuna?

AliceWorld · 23/04/2011 09:03

Quorn do a pate. Although that might have eggs in.

Holland and Barret to a yeast pate in various flavours. Mushroom, mexican, herb iirc

AliceWorld · 23/04/2011 09:04

Cream cheese

Meglet · 23/04/2011 09:05

Grated carrot & finely chopped celery mixed with cream cheese.

All great ideas thanks. We live in Belgium, the children are all around 10. Because Marmite is so english, it is not well received here (dd took some home made marmite twists to school).
I know that the veggies I am talking about don't eat fish (they are Jain) and I don't know about Quorn pate.
Looks like I'll have to scour the shops, I do know that there is a fridge full of quorn stuff at our supermarket.

Are chickpeas counted as nuts? Houmous is nice. Esp. with grated carrot.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 23/04/2011 15:34

I don't think chickpeas are nuts. although, DDs school does class coconut as a nut.
Looks like it will be hummus and carrot (great idea) and possibly some salad or cucumber.

Love mashed banana in a sandwich = yummy

colditz · 23/04/2011 15:37

Pesto salad
Hoummous and carrot
Cheese and cucumber
Marmite and cream cheese
Jam - thickly speard on crusty baguette

kreecherlivesupstairs · 23/04/2011 16:25

Good ideas, never considered sweet fillings, only savoury.
Now to check to see whether the jam has gelatine in it and whether I can buy veggie cheese.

Jam doesn't normally have gelatine in the very best is just fruit and sugar and lemon juice

Grated cheese and apple is nice

How about lentil sandwich spread?

AtAmber · 23/04/2011 16:32

My ds is allergic to nuts. He's also allergic to sesame which is in hummous. So I would check if they can have that. He's also allergic to coconut!

gallicgirl · 23/04/2011 16:37

I think hummous often has sesame in it which is no good for nut allergies.

Chocolate spread?

kreecherlivesupstairs · 23/04/2011 17:00

Because, that is fantastic. The only thing that worries me is the children involved are Indian and it may not measure up to their mum's.
I would make the hummus so no sesame paste inclusion.
AtAmber, bloody hell, life must be a barrel of laughs for you.

Kreecher, you're right. It's a complete pita. He's in y7 and is going to France with school for a week in July which I'm a bit worried about!'But I'm sure it will be fine. We have an epipen but thankfully have never needed to use it. We are waiting for youngest ds who is nearly 4 to be tested. Hoping he will be ok, he's never had a reaction to anything, but I'm really careful about what he eats.
