Hi all,

We are going out for the day on Sunday and are going to take a picnic. There are 2 families and we are each going to take things for both families to share.

I usually do sandwiches, a side salad, maybe a pasta salad, sausage rolls, fruit salad, cake etc. A average not very exciting type of picnic.

What sort of things do you take on your picnics? I'd like a bit of mumsnet inspiration to jazz up my contributions.

(We'll be leaving home at 7.30ish in the morning and will take ice packs but the food will be out of the fridge for a good few hours before we eat it)

Tortilla is perfect for picnics too - precook the night before, leave in the fridge then cut up before you go. Lush

Otherwise we pretty mug do what everyone else does too! Lots of dips and stuff to dip it into, I tend to stay clear of anything that need cutlery if poss unless lovely posh adult picnic

I live in LA though so can't get hold of a decent pork pie for love nor money

My brain has gone to sleep so cannot remember what it is called but basically it is a round fresh loaf top sliced off horizontally scoop out the bread bit then drizzle a bit of garlic oil on the base and layer mozzarella, basil, tomato, bit if garli oil fill to top, wrap tightly with cling film and put in fridge overnight with plate on top of it, then cut into quarters and scoff. Have made with lots of fillings.
I also like veg and dips
Crisps
Fruit
And of course cake

Yum. Good ideas.
We're having a picnic this weekend. I need something that's really easy.
DS would be happy with crisps, sausages and strawberries.DD will happily gnaw on a French stick and strawberries.
There will be adults though and dh has already requested chicken drumsticks Angry

Tesco sell ready made tortilla Blush

AmericasTorturedBrow · 03/04/2014 14:35

oooh isn't that literally called a picnic loaf Blueberry...seen pics and recipes for them but never tried it, does it really work when you slice it? It doesn't fall apart?

Blueberry234 · 03/04/2014 18:20

I think it also has some fancy French name but in our house it is called a picnic brick! If you wrap it really tightly with cling film and squash it with a plate it doesn't. They are so yummy
