Icing sugar. Can I just stick normal sugar in the processor until it's more 'dusty'?

What the title says. A recipe calls for icing sugar, but I have run out. Is icing sugar just 'squashed' normal sugar, or am I being dense? [more than likely]

Depends what it's for.

If it's for icing, I doubt it. But for something like meringues then yes.

I'd say try it. Nothing to loose really.

yes

Yes you can.

If you're making icing, it's quite nice and crunchy with some caster sugar in it. I always mix them now.

Yes, you can (I have Blush) but you'll be unlikely to get it quite as fine, so the resulting icing will be a bit 'gritty'.

Yes, my granny used to make icing sugar by putting granulated in the coffee grinder, worked fine.

Thanks guys - you're all fantastically lovely for replying!

It's for a syrup to pour over the cake, so hopefully it will dissolve OK. Will get the machine out and give the sugar some pummeling.

Update. Normal silver spoon used, turned out a treat.

Thanks all!
